You have a point. But that's just not the way it is. Monroe County isn't considered "South Florida" either. But you can't get any further south in the USA than that. Actually, I've been hearing it divided differently alot more lately. As in : our tri county area being labeled Southeast Florida and your area as Southwest Florida.

I have a problem with away games not being telecast. Especially the IL games that are being forced upon us. Wouldn't bother me a bit if MLB took on some kind of amended NFL stance on broadcasting home games within a certain distance of the ball park if a certain amount of tickets aren't sold by a specified time.

The NFL has the worst TV policy in major sports short of the Chicago Blackhawks. However, 150 games is great....but other teams are breaking the 162 game level. FSN and the Marlins should look to do something to get all 162 televised sooner rather than later.

Dish Network and DirecTV bought the package for their customers statewide and in Southern Alabama where MLB has granted the Marlins territory. Certain providers, such as Verizon FiOS in Tampa Bay, also have all 150 games bought for their customers.

I fail to see your meaning of "heavily influenced by SoFla." You are talking the Treasure Coast. Where life is very different than SoFla. IMO, very different in a great way. But I would imagine you are talking about the TV influence. I believe that area gets alot of the PBC broadcasts with a mix of Orlando thrown in. I have no idea how that translates to cable or satellite rights. That's more your field. But here where I live in PBC I get absolutely zero Miami-Dade or Broward coverage. Unless it's national type news. Or sports.

But let's keep this to just home games because I feel that every away game should be televised. I rather like the NFL policy on TV coverage. If an NFL team can't sell out 48 hours before a game they shouldn't be allowed to televise it in a 100 mile radius. I believe the NFL owners also like the idea that if a game isn't sold out someone, or some company(ies) will have to step in to buy up remaining tix so it can be televised. With the local media having to do that so Dolphins games can be televised (more often than not) I would imagine Huizenga absolutely loves this plan. And I would be willing to bet MLB owners would also. I don't think that stiff of a policy would translate well into a 81 home game season, but I wouldn't mind some type of variation on it. The sell out part would need to lowered and also the radius part. I know this isn't a very popular concept for the South Florida fan base. A place where 4+ mil people reside and only 15K show up for a Friday night game. A place where it is more of a sport to dream up reasons of why you won't attend games. You just saw a great example of it right here. A guy that lives in PBC resorts to name calling because he can't watch a game on TV that is against a team who's rare visit to our area gets an attendance figure of 15K. A team that has beloved former Marlins, the reigning AL MVP, some exceptional players, on a beautiful night, and the first game after a road trip. There is no doubt in my mind it won't happen. But I sure wouldn't mind seeing it happen.

I'm with Bob on his point and will concur that you're WAY OFF POINT on this. For starters, "South Florida" is pretty much Miami-Dade, Broward, and Palm Beach. Martin, St. Lucie, Okeechobee, and Indian River are basically considered "The Treasure Coast" and are very adamant about their "independence" from South Florida. To say that IR, SLC, and Brevard are "heavily influenced by South Florida" is to be plainly "speaking out of your arse!" I lived and worked in Martin County for four years, and there was no way I could say that anything there was "heavily influenced" by South Florida. As for "media related" stuff, the Palm Beach Post really only covers professional sports that are centered around Miami-Dade and Broward. Aside from that, there is no "heavy influence" of news or features from "South Florida", i.e. Miami-Dade or Broward. And then you have the Scripps papers of the Treasure Coast (The Stuart News, The St. Lucie/Ft. Pierce Tribune, and The Vero Beach Press-Journal) which are completely "independent" from "South Florida" and are in no way "heavily influenced" by "South Florida." And then there's Brevard which isn't even in the "South Florida" media markets. C'mon, Melbourne is the closest you can get to us in order to watch a blacked out Dolphins game. I've now said my peace on this.
