Cubs Acquire Jason Kendall

The Cubs have acquired catcher Jason Kendall from the A's for Rob Bowen and a minor leaguer, FOXSports.com has learned.

The A's are also including cash in the deal. Bowen was designated for assignment earlier Monday.

Chicago has been in need of a catcher since trading Michael Barrett to the Padres on June 21, shortly after a dugout run-in with pitcher Carlos Zambrano. The Cubs have split their catching duties between Bowen, Koyie Hill and Geovany Soto, but that trio has combined for just four hits since the deal.

Kendall, in his third season in Oakland, has two home runs and 12 RBIs for the A's in 2007. His .226 average is the worst mark in his 12 major league seasons.

The Kendall trade indicates the A's will be sellers as the trade deadline approaches. After being swept in four games by the Twins, Oakland is currently 44-48 ? 11.5 games out in the AL West and 10.5 out in the wild card race.

At 47-43, the Cubs are just 3.5 games back in the NL Central and three behind the wild card lead.

Tim Hudson for Charles Thomas, Dan Meyer, and Juan Cruz.

Ding.

This is a non-factor....Hudson has done nothing superior for the Braves....wouldn't have been re-signed and would have been lost for nothing.

To you Junior:

Finally, naysayers will point to the A's relatively weaker playoff performances during this time period. Both the Red Sox and Yankees did much better in the playoffs than the A's, who lost all four of their first round series. However, as Billy Beane himself pointed out in Moneyball, playoff series outcomes are heavily influenced by chance because of the small number of games involved and the high degree of randomness in baseball. The A's lost all four series by narrow 3-2 margins and several times were victimized by very bad luck. Had they been slightly luckier, their playoff record might have been much better.

To you Fox:

Drafting of Huston Street, Joe Blanton, Nick Swisher...

Listen, i know he hasn't won crap and has made poor draft picks but tell me a GM who hasn't...

John Schuerholtz not a good GM? Braves only won one world series...

Brian Cashman that good of a GM? his teams won multiple titles...

Theo Epstein for all his "genius" has only one title...
