August 2, 200718 yr Boy, what a surprise that Gregg is coming back to earth. I mean, it's not like he was well overperforming his career averages or anything. The "Superman" talk always seemed extremely premature to me.
August 2, 200718 yr Thumbs up to Hermida for moving Hammer to third for the go ahead run, It looked to me that he was looking to place it to that side of the field. Kim showed a lot of guts too I thought he was getting out of the first, he threw a bunch of pitches. At this point a win is a win. Can't believe a kudos goes to Jeremy in this game. It looked like he had a gremlin on his back that pushed his glove down on the play in the 1st. Half a section or so to my left and I though the ball was going to be caught and then he just lowers his glove. Maybe a little bit of a jump, but that ball was so catchable. Maybe my closeness and my angle "contorted" my opinion. I have no idea what the TV angles with the replays showed. Am I wrong here? And then his first AB he grounds into an inning ending DP. I've been backing Jeremy and cutting him slack all year. But please excuse me if I'm not gushing all over him for this game. Or this series so far for that matter. Looks to me like going to his left he appears to be fine. But consistently misjudges balls to his right and running straight in. Won't exaggerate and say "always", but "consistently" seems to fit nicely.
August 2, 200718 yr Inexcusable that an injury ravaged team allowed a pitcher to go 120+, and a laborious 120+ No problems extending Kim whatsoever that guy lives to throw I've noticed that when at home and it's not real hot, like a day game, he seems to do better. And last night wasn't exactly what I would call an uncomfortable night. Surprised when I saw his pitch count climbing ever skyward and no one was up in the pen. And when I saw him come up in the 4th to bat I figured Fredi was just trying to give him a well deserved shot at the win. The guy worked his butt off and deserved the shot. What did surprise me was the pitch count. On the way home listening to the recap on 560 it was 126 official. At the game on the big screen it was 129. And when he hit the 120's I remarked to those around us that I couldn't remember the last time one of our pitchers went that high in the pitch count.

Could he have got it? Maybe, Amezaga probably would have, but he really should have let it hit the wall and caught it off the bounce.
August 2, 200718 yr And Dontrelle would have been the '03 Cy Young winner on August 1st. Miggy's production all year, plus his last 3 years tell me he's likely to finish above .330 and probably hit 40 this year. That's MVP worthy. MVP worthy if the Marlins make the playoffs. Or contend, which they won't. But who really stands out in the NL so far this season? Fielder had a great first half, but has cooled off. Utley looked to be a candidate, but is on the DL. Ryan Braun has been amazing, but hasn't played enough games. Reyes? Holliday? Howard? That's what makes this season's MVP race interesting.
August 2, 200718 yr Kim as a Marlin: 4-3, 4.27 ERA Julio as a Rockie: 27 IP, 3.33 ERA I guess trades really can work out equally well for both sides.

And beyond just the raw stats, such as ERA, Kim's value to the Marlins has been enhanced by the fact that, unlike Julio, he was able to be plugged into a starting rotation decimated by injury and eat up a lot of innings. I wasn't a big fan of giving up on Petit so soon, especially given the return, but getting Kim for Julio was a good way to salvage that seeming misstep, regardless of what Julio ends up doing in Colorado (I don't think it is fair to assume he could have done the same here).

On the flyball, it looked to me on TV that he could have possibly caught it. It would have been nice if he at least tried. Impossible to know what's going on in his mind. I think that your description is accurate. Dead on. As you'd expect, since you've spent years looking over the shoulders of right fielders at Joe Robbie Stadium.
