My Display/Screen Name

Featured Replies

I have had the screen name Bobbob1313 since I was in 5th grade. The last screen name I had before this one was EANHL98, a reference to my favorite video game at the time. This screen name means a lot of things to alot of people. It represents the e-douchebaggery that has become my staple on Marlinsbaseball, it represents the overusage of innuendo on AIM that I am well known for amongst my friends, and it represents my 20,000 posts on another message board, indpedendent of Marlinsbaseball. In short, it is an icon of the internets.

But, lately, I've been feeling the itch for something new. While the name has been good to me, it has occurred to me that I don't even have a clue where it came from (which may add to it's mystique. It's like divine providence. "The Lady of the Lake, her arm clad in the purest shimmering samite held aloft "Bobbob1313" from the bosom of the water, signifying by divine providence that I, Chris, was to carry "Bobbob1313". THAT is why I am your king."), and this leads to embaressing conversations when admirers ask me where I got the inspiration for such an awe inspiring name. When I am forced, finally, to admit that I haven't the slightest clue, there is a palpable awkwardness in the air, as if Abraham Lincoln had just told a bunch of ex-slaves he got the idea for the emancipation proclamation from the back of a cereal box.

So, here I stand, at a crossroads in my life. On the one hand, I have recieved fame and fortune (well, maybe not the fortune, but certainly the fame) in part because of this name. I cannot take all of the credit for the admiration that e-citizens have for me all over the web, as the name is surely at least partly to blame. However, on the other hand, it may be time for a new direction. Like Michael Jordan continued to dominate the league even after his change to 45, have no doubt, my friends, that I will continue to dominate this forum at an MVP level for as long as I remain. But maybe, just maybe, it's time for something new.

This is where you come in, my friends. I need some ideas for a name, and I'm not sure where to start. Any and all suggestions will be listened to and discussed amongst a panel, and I will let the outcome of the hunt be known. This all may lead to nothing, but it may lead to something great, and don't you want to be a part of history?

Well I am lucky enough to cast the first vote. Your post was very Shakespearian in nature, but I must give it a no.

Even though you may have little knowledge and confidence behind the makings of your SN, it is important that we the posters give it meaning. The two bobs from office space and the two thirteens signifying your love for Dan Marino are enough to give your SN meaning and admiration to all South Floridians. Although I am Impressed that someone actually had a SN prior to the 5th grade, I must answer your poll with a big fat NO.

I can sympathize, Bobbob. I've been FlummoxedLummox for so long that it's become a part of me. If I made a new screen name now it would be much different. It comes from a time when I was quite different and doesn't really represent who I am now, so I think about changing it pretty frequently. When it comes down to it, though, I never do it. Too much has happened under this screen name for me to abandon it. Too much history. It's like the baseball equivalent of closing Fenway Park. It's an institution of the internet. So I keep it.

I voted yes simply to be be a dissenting vote although I do see a strong argument for having a screen name that means something. That being said, I have one of the worst screen names on mb.com so take my opinion with a grain of salt.

Don't change it. I hate it when everyone changes their names. It becomes very hard to keep track of who is who.

i love you bobbob, a lot actually

dont do it...i mean i dont even really know who you are, but if youve had the name for that long...keep it.

like my name, i only use it for this site but everybody (well not that many people) but people know me as fishfan25. and im never changing my name aslong as im on this site.
