August 13, 200718 yr After missing a month--and an opportunity to play in his second straight Futures Game--with a shoulder injury, Maybin got back to being Maybin, raking for both average and power. After hitting .304/.393/.486 in 296 at-bats, the Tigers called Maybin up to Double-A, where he's set the Eastern League on fire with home runs in each of his first three games for the Seawolves. "He's a game-changer with his speed," says one American League scout, "but take that away and he can impact games with his bat, the power in his bat and his ability to punish you when you make a mistakes. The kid's just got such great instincts and he never takes any time off. He's all-out all the time." he's gonna be real cool
August 13, 200718 yr I haven't been keeping much tabs on him, but doesn't most of his hits come off infield groundballs that he's able to beat out? Dude obviously has a good eye (near .1 difference between .baa and .obp) and power (near .1 difference between .slg and .obp), so I'm not saying he's the next Eric Reed/Joey Gathright. But if it's true a lot of his hits come off infield groundballs, he's gonna have to step it up. One of the situations where .baa and .obp don't tell the whole story. Then again I might be thinking of someone else all togeather.
August 14, 200718 yr I got to see him play over here in Ft Myers a couple of Friday's ago and he looked awesome. Was batting third and the ball just jumps off of his bat. I've haven't read much about his defense or arm but in CF he made one throw to hold a runner and after that it seemed they were scared to run on him.
August 14, 200718 yr Based on everything I've heard, his arm is already about a 60 on the 20/80 scale, and his range in the OF is at the top of the "elite OF prospect" class. (McCutchen, Upton, Bruce, Martinez, etc). He's also put on 10-15 pounds of muscle in the offseason; little by little growing into that frame. I remember seeing him in Spring Training, and than seeing him this FSL season, and he even looks more filled out. It's already showing in his improved power numbers. I don't think it's a stretch at all to say he's got the projectability to become a 30/30 guy at the Major League level.
August 17, 200718 yr Can't wait till he's up with the Tigers. Well I think you just got your wish granted... He was just called up this morning
August 17, 200718 yr Debut in Yankee Stadium? Doesn't get much bigger then that. I hope he kicks all ammounts of ass unless he is playing us.
August 17, 200718 yr So I'm guessing he is going to be playing in LF? Yeah. There's a flu-bug going around with Monroe and I think Thames tweaked his hammy last night.

You probably already know this by now but Craig Monroe was designated for assignment to make room. Monroe will definitely find another home.
August 17, 200718 yr Who is the better prospect, Bruce or Maybin? Maybe even Maybin > Upton and Bruce, but Bruce beat out Maybin and Upton for top-prospect honors in the Midwest League last summer
August 17, 200718 yr Author Who is the better prospect, Bruce or Maybin? Maybe even Maybin > Upton and Bruce, but Bruce beat out Maybin and Upton for top-prospect honors in the Midwest League last summer Upton is a better prospect than both of them
August 17, 200718 yr 1. Justin Upton 2. Jay Bruce 3. Cameron Maybin 4. Andrew McCutchen Is how I would rank that OF class.
August 19, 200718 yr Clemens just hit him with a pitch in his very next AB. really??? what a p.o.s. It was'nt intentional. He was pitching him inside and it got away. Hit him on the hand.
