August 19, 200718 yr hanley is by far a better power hitter / more cosistent hitter. reyes is by far a better player all around and it aint close at all defensively and is better at everything else except power numbers really. Hanley is a far better player all around, and it isn't close. Reyes isn't near as good a defensive player as you give him credit for. He's middle of the league, Hanley's near the bottom of the league. He can't make up for just how much better Hanley is with the bat. It's not even close. Reyes is middle of the league? hhahahaa. dont bring up defensive stats because they are all flawed. watch with your eyes, you'll see how magical reyes is. Hanley is a great slugger but really, he's not better then reyes in any other category besides slugging.
August 19, 200718 yr Why do you people keep having the same exact arguments with this troll week after week?

Please, what is this "everything else" you speak of? Because it obviously doesn't include hitting for power, hitting for average, or avoiding outs. Weird, I figured those were kind of important. I'm also quite sure that in terms of importance and what'll help your team win more games, Hanley's advantages > "Everything else." Also, if you want to talk about defense so much. What about Reyes' defense in 2005 and 2006? If you want to truly make a fair comparison and analyze this from how well they are relative to their age and experience in the league, Hanley's defensive abilities this year are about on par with Reyes' during his 2nd year. Of course, that's according to defensive statistics you conveniently choose to ignore. It's only been this year where Reyes has really even demonstrated above average defense over an extended period of time. Not to mention the fact that scouts have routinely said Hanley has alot of defensive upside which has just taken longer to develop than his offensive abilities, kind of like GASP! Jose Reyes. So, we're debating between one of the top 5 offensive players in the league whose defensive game can only improve and an admittedly good hitter whose only comparable advantages are defense and marginally better speed - a talent with a much shorter shelf life than superior hitting skills. Remind me again, how is this even a debate anymore?
August 19, 200718 yr The Marlins have two young position studs on their team: Miguel Cabrera and Hanley Ramirez. Cabrera is an NL MVP candidate right now, and Hanley is showing that he can be as well. It's a shame that D-Train has regressed this year. :confused
August 20, 200718 yr How can someone who leads the league in hitting be a worse hitter than someone who is 37 points lower?
August 20, 200718 yr How can someone who leads the league in hitting be a worse hitter than someone who is 37 points lower? You obviously need to read up on the intangi-scale and national fellatio ratio that is being measured in player's worth now-a-days. They're going to be the new OPS and RC, very very soon.

August 20, 200718 yr Author Hanley is a MVP year, Reyes is having a nice year. simply put Hanley is better this year. Last year Reyes was better. Reyes was horrible defensively his first few years and now is much better, Hanley will take time but will do the same according to scouting reports in the minors. Neither are going to be Omar Visquel or Ozzie, both will be above average defensively in their career Right now hanley is 200 OPS points higher then Reyes when leading off. That is the difference is huge want to see? http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/...h5SzXWteyFCLcF Jose's numbers in the lead off position .301 .375 .449 .824 Nice above average numbers http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/players/...h5SzXWteyFCLcF Hanley's numbers in the lead off position .362 .425 .632 1.056 Over 200 OPS higher, do you know how big of a difference that is? For basis for mets fans that is the difference between Paul Loduca and Tom Glavine at bat pretty much. Would you like another Basis? that is the difference between Albert Pujols and Adam LaRoche http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/bypositi...d=1&sort=25 That is the difference between Derek Jeter and tony Pena of KC as your SS http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/bypositi...d=1&sort=25 http://sports.yahoo.com/mlb/stats/by...fied=1&sort=25 That is the difference in Derek Jeter and Tony Pena of KC as your SS Not even worrying about leading off he has 88 points on Renteria, 100 points on Rollins, and 143 points on Reyes in OPS Honestly Renteria has more claim for the MVP then Rollions or Reyes imo. He has been rock solid all year and he is the main reason the braves are in this show. Best SS in the NL East Hanley Ramirez Edgar Renteria Jimmy Rollins Jose Reyes in that order
