Posted August 20, 200717 yr http://www.finheaven.com/boardvb2/showthread.php?t=208546 And here's my post in the thing: LOL at everyone here talking about boycotting 790. You sound like the people who hate 560 because they continuously take dumps on the Marlins (especially Fat Hank).
August 20, 200717 yr Maybe 790 going after JT for not doing their show is a little childish, but you can't argue with the points 790 (mostly LeBatard) has when it comes to the Dolphins and their suckness.
August 20, 200717 yr What's the background on this story? i got the same question cause i barely listen to sports radio. JT= Jason Taylor??
August 20, 200717 yr What's the background on this story? Months after trashing the Dolphins after they moved their games to WQAM, 790 The Ticket is now embroiled in an unrelated controversy with one of the team's marquee players. Joel Feinberg, owner of the Ticket, said Thursday he has instructed his lawyer to file a breach-of-contract lawsuit against Jason Taylor after Taylor this week backed out of a deal to do a weekly radio show on the station. Ralph Stringer, who handles Taylor's broadcasting and marketing deals, said Taylor intended to do the show (5-6 p.m. Fridays) until he heard The Ticket was running a promo for its whimsical ''fake'' Dolphins pregame show. The promo says, among other things, that because the Dolphins haven't made the playoffs in five years, ``The Dolphins don't deserve a real pregame show. So we're giving them a fake one.'' Feinberg said the promo ''wasn't a shot at anybody,'' but Stringer said Taylor ''didn't feel, as a leader of the team in the locker room'' that he should appear on the station. ''To do a show like you condone that, it was not the thing to do,'' Stringer said, adding neither Dolphins management nor teammates asked him to cancel the show. ``How can you represent the team and do a show where they're saying the team is not good enough to deserve a show? It's hypocritical. This is his livelihood. You have to be loyal to teammates or it can create dissension.'' Feinberg said Taylor signed a contract, but Stringer said Taylor did not sign a formal contract but did sign ``a partnership agreement with final contract to follow subject to terms.'' Feinberg said he's ''surprised'' by Taylor's reaction. '' Dan Le Batard and [ Jon Weiner] have a whole lineup of fakes that call into their show,'' Feinberg said. ``It's funny stuff. People like it. We're a different station than sports stations in the past. We're edgy. ``This isn't a personal issue toward him and the Dolphins. Jason is a friend of the station. We've done a lot together for his charities. All I'm doing is protecting my business. You have a binding contract -- you can't just say I'm not going to do it and not give any other alternatives.'' Even though the show hadn't started, Feinberg said he's filing a lawsuit because ''a monetary loss'' will result from Taylor's decision. Feinberg declined to say what he's seeking. Taylor had not been given any advance payment before canceling, Feinberg said. Stringer said he expects Taylor will prevail in the lawsuit because ``how can you get a judgment against a guy who made a decision without knowing derogatory comments were made about his employer?''
August 20, 200717 yr wow f*** that, jason did the right thing and 790 is full of sh*t to actually hold that against him.
August 20, 200717 yr wow f*** that, jason did the right thing and 790 is full of sh*t to actually hold that against him. It isn't the right thing if in fact JT did sign a contract, and it sounds like he did.

It isn't the right thing if in fact JT did sign a contract, and it sounds like he did. i doubt he knew this is what they had planned. and regarless of the legal matters, how can he justify being a captain of a team and then have a show on a station whose premise for Dolphins coverage this year is "they suck so bad they dont deserve a real pregame show"? can you imagine him reading at the end of his show "stay tuned for that fake pregame show we get on sundays cause we suck to much to have a real one"??
August 20, 200717 yr It isn't right in a legal sense, and if he has to pay penalties for breach of contract he should. I have a lot of respect for him making that move though. I like conviction and a pair of brass balls. Seems Mr. Taylor has both. I don't get what is so LOL-worthy of fans not wanting to support a radio station whose views they don't support. Seems like a good idea to me if you want to get a business's attention, if they follow through with it and don't support their advertisers as well.

A couple things, 1) I know what the quote says, but.... the reality is that the premise of the fake pregame show is that most pregame shows (for every team, not just the Dolphins) are a ridiculous waste of time. Its a bunch of guys talking as if they know things when in fact nothing they say is ever right and then they talk to a 3rd string tight end about what to expect in the game. LeBatard still gets better guests on his show than the real pregame shows but he also has fun with it.... 2) This point made by LeBatard and its not off the mark at all.... TO does this and you all say "What a prima donna loser!" 790 is a station with interesting personalities while 560 is being setup to be boring talk radio that just felaciates the Dolphins and wont give you any confliting viewpoints

August 20, 200717 yr The comment in the promo that they are running for their pregame show is simply "because the Dolphins haven't made the playoffs in five years, they don't deserve a real pregame show, so we are giving them a fake pregame show." It is funny and absolutely tongue in check. I think you have to have a background understanding of that station- they don't take sports seriously and understand it is just entertainment. They are an entertainment station that revolves around sports topics. They have been making fun of their pregame show for months now, and I think the promos are hilarious and the whole "fake pregame show" thing is hilarious. Jason Taylor needs to man up and honor his word if he did indeed sign a contract He probably just decided he didn't want to waste an hour of his weekend on a radio station and wanted a way out. Who knows. But once you give your word on paper, you should keep it.

TO does this and you all say "What a prima donna loser!" where was this when they had the rights to the games? and you know maybe your right about TO when it comes to the media (OMG he was late to practice this week!!) but personally id feel he'd be justified to do the same.
August 20, 200717 yr You breach a contract, you're going to be in trouble. Simple as that. While I may respect what Taylor did, in no way do I think it should be condoned. Language in the contract is going to be huge, and for anyone to extrapolate what may or may not be written is just a tremendous waste. Taylor did what he thought was right, I'm sure his agent/attorney felt his actions were slightly justified, and as such, 790 looks foolish and if all they take from this is a paper judgment, it really is just petty beyond words.
August 20, 200717 yr TO does this and you all say "What a prima donna loser!" Not me. Plus, I support Taylor in this and I don't give a flying f*** about the Dolphins. I call 'em as I see 'em.

Well, LeBatard felt the same way but cetainly they wouldnt give him the show with the same format and freedom to joke around in the pregame format. Obviously losing to the Dolphins to 560 made that possible, but Im cool with it. I cant stand listening to 560 anymore and I listen to 790 all day at work and on the drive home and caught parts of each other first two fake pregame shows and they were better than any NFL pregame show Ive heard before.

August 20, 200717 yr Understandable. I just think Taylor should have some fun with it. LeBatard promotes making fun of himself just as much as anything else, its not like he is going out there to trash the Dolphins, it just comes up while having fun with his callers. He asked the listeners to come up with movie names (based on real movies) to describe the upcoming season. I cant remember most of them, but callers came up with Goodwill Punting, Boolander, Silence of the Fans, The Usual Suckfest, Along Came Polly.... nesians....., etc.... Its a good time and between such segments, he still gets the biggest and best guests in South Florida.

See "Marlins" under "Fat Hank". it aint the same, thats a radio personality. he can say whatever he wants, the same as Dan Le Batard with the Dolphins. the STATION running a promo saying "stay tuned for the fake marlins on deck show at 6:30... they're so bad they dont deserve a real pregame" would have most of this board on a mission to have some 560 executive's lynched.
August 20, 200717 yr Ehhhh.... when the Marlins suck I have no problem with 790 calling them out for being crappy. And like you said yourself, 560 wouldnt do something like that because they have the Marlins rights. Also, Im not sure it was really a "station" promo that was heard, Im pretty sure it was part of an opening from commercial to LeBatards show and it was the shows "big voice" that said that.
August 20, 200717 yr LeBatard just said "speaking of Superbad, the Marlins were swept" .... OH NO, BOYCOTT! WHAT A HORRIBLE THING TO SAY!
