August 28, 200719 yr does anyone remember the marlins on deck episode when fredi was applauding the way ramirez had been playing when he brought up how his defense had improved alot and then said he hopes he didnt "ginks" hanley....well since then i beleive hanley has committted like 6 or 7 errors and that was probably not even a month ago......just thought i would vent that out there guys.
August 28, 200719 yr Meh, the error stat is overrated. While Hanley has his share of bobbles some are throwing errors too. Rafael Furcal rack up errors(or he did, havent look lately to be honest) like they were a scarce natural resource and he was still excellent. Hanley has an arm+range out his bum, those are conducive to high error totals because you can get to alot of balls and rush a throw here or there on occasion. Doesnt lessen a players defensive value so much as penalize a player for attempting to do something others cannot.

August 28, 200719 yr I don't get all the harping on the manager for defensive errors, yet noboby credits the coaching staff at all for Hanley's offensive success. I don't really think Fredi has much to do with either, but if you're going to criticize him for one, don't you have to praise him for the other?
August 28, 200719 yr Last year we did a lot more defensive drills than what we're doing this year and the defense has regressed so I blame I blame Fredi for that. It looks like Fredi is one of those people who thinks that defense, errors and unerarned runs don't really matter.

He looks more like on of those people that make you think, too bad he was saddled with a terrible team, maybe he couldve been a good manager otherwise. 2) The original poster says "Fredi at it again" so I expected something about Fredi, but it seems like the real point is that Hanley's defense has dropped off from where it was a couple weeks ago.... that would seem like its more about Hanley than Fredi..... .... but the main culprit would be Fredi saying that Hanley had been playing well.

I don't know what he's thinking but I know he has a terrible defensive team and his response to the poor defensive play is to cut back of defensive drills compared to '06. How would you explain his response? It boggles my mind.

August 28, 200719 yr We are nowhere without Hanley but if he cut down on SOME of his errors we would be a better team with better morale. Errors are morale killers. Anyone who says that pitchers arent affected by errors is living a lie.
August 28, 200719 yr stop blaming freddy for the defensive errors.... everyone is saying girardi had the team with better defense... but people must not think much of perry hill... because perry hill left the team.... and now the errors are coming constantly... im not saying andy fox isnt a good infield coach... but he sure as hell aint no perry hill........ perry hill can bring back the defense.... atleast have him come over for like a homestand just to give the team some drills to improve and show andy fox how to coach the damn defense... and maybe fredi isnt acustomed to so many defense drills because being in atlanta with so much defense... gold gloves and such high caliber players like chipper, andruw etc..... this is just my 2 cents..... but heck, what do i know. i'm just a fan.

Every time a position player does not make the play, every time a position player makes an error the pitcher has to pitch to additional hitters. Take last night's game. Miller had one out with a runner on first. A slow roller up the middle that was not played by Uggla or Hanley. Either make that play, and Miller striking out the next batter, no runs will score. Two innings later, after a home run, 2 errors created additional opportunities in which they scored. Defense must be held accountable, Pitchers are important but without plays behind them it is a mute point.
