Willis seeking back-to-back wins

09/20/2007 12:59 AM ET

By Tom Keller / MLB.com

Dontrelle Willis will look to win consecutive starts for the first time since April when he takes the mound against the Mets on Thursday.

The Marlins return home riding a four-game losing streak after they had strung together four straight wins. Florida was swept in three games at Atlanta.

The D-Train, who was scheduled to pitch Wednesday but got bumped back in the rotation, notched his first win in six starts and second win in 20 outings his last time out when he beat the Rockies despite surrendering five runs in six innings. Willis has not won consecutive decisions since May 29, and has not won consecutive starts since April 28. He lost to the Mets in his only other meeting with them this season, but his 11 career victories against New York are his most against any franchise.

The Mets, clinging to a 2 1/2-game lead in the National League East, will call on fellow southpaw Tom Glavine, who is undefeated in his last 13 starts and hasn't lost since July 2. Curiously, the 41-year-old has had notorious struggles at Dolphin Stadium. He's 7-13 there for his career, and it's the only park in which he's made at least 17 starts and has a losing record.

Pitching matchup

FLA: LHP Dontrelle Willis (9-15, 5.34 ERA)

Initially, Willis was slated to start on Wednesday at Atlanta, but he is being pushed back a day. By doing so, the ace falls in line to make three more starts. He is in line to also face the Cubs (Sept. 25) and Mets (Sept. 30) on the final day of the season. Willis is 11-3 with a 2.39 ERA lifetime against the Mets.

NYM: LHP Tom Glavine (13-6, 3.88 ERA)

Glavine pitched 7 2/3 strong innings against the Phillies, limiting the NL's best offense to just two runs. His only mistake came on a Chase Utley homer, which provided all the offense and left Glavine with a no-decision. The lefty now holds a 1.30 ERA over his past four starts, and he'll look for his 14th win against the Marlins.

Player to watch

Mets outfielder Moises Alou, a former Marlin, is 7-for-15 against Willis in his career.

I'll be there! How about we make it 2 people and you show up as well.

I've managed not to see him in a mutt jersey until right now...I just died inside.

i missed Conine come to bat, how was the ovation...and Jim Joyce-amazing!

Nothing to write home about...Have to remember he already came down here once as a Red though, and that half the fans there are Met fans anyways.

All I heard was a "Let's Go Mets" chant when he was at the plate. :banghead

can someone stop the Mets fans...if you like the Mets so much, go back to NY

It's really hard to say that when we aren't at the game today.

I'm in Connecticut...so I guess using my logic I should go back to Miami?
