November 25, 200718 yr ok so for the past few days my internet goes on and off. My computer at all times is saying i have a strong internet connection. We have wireless internet but my computer is directly plugged into the modem. I called dell spent about 40 min on the phone with them. Everything seems to b fine they said. We called the internet service and they told me that the modem is online and everything seems to be fine. I have been running virus scans and everything is fine. I have been reseting the router...unplugging and waiting and restarting the comp. I am not sure what the problem could be. I have had internet for 20 min now and even when posting this topic everything had to reconnect...im using aol. I feel that firefox has been the curse. lol.
November 25, 200718 yr Sounds like your computer is not getting enough power. Find a 220V outlet and plug that sucker in. It should fix all of your problems and boost your connection speed.

November 26, 200718 yr Are there other computers on the network? Perhaps an IP conflict? (throwing darts at a target in the dark)
November 26, 200718 yr Author Well my computer is directly into the modem and our other computer on the other side of the house is connected wireless. So my computer is basically on the main line.
November 26, 200718 yr Author How old is your router? You may need a new one. only 2 years from dell. I honestly have no idea whats wrong. this is the first time in 3 days that its been going strong for like a solid amount of time without reconnecting
November 26, 200718 yr I have had similar problems in the past and replacing the router has been the solution. However, see if you can change the splitter (if you use one) on the coaxial cable.

November 26, 200718 yr I had that problem before.. Internet keep going off and on.. Turns out it was my damn cordless phones in the house... I had filters on all the lines but the frequency of the phones were interrupting the connection.. Do you have cordless phones in the house????
November 26, 200718 yr Author lol every phone in the house is cordless. But we have had all cordless for the past 4 months and this is the first time we have had this problem for more then 3 days. Usually it last like a few hours then it comes back and everything is right.
