December 3, 200718 yr The Twins, expected to resume discussions with the Yankees and Red Sox about left-hander Johan Santana on Monday, are considering filing tampering charges against the Yankees because of Hank Steinbrenner's public comments about the pitcher, according to a major-league source. http://msn.foxsports.com/mlb/story/7521692...3162&ATT=49 I seriously lol'd. Someone get that guy a muzzle.
December 4, 200718 yr A-Rod came back to the Yankees with his hat in his hands. They weren't going to tell the best player in baseball who was begging them to negotiate to f*** off. However, he needs to shut up regardless. Cashman is no longer in charge, don't bother hoping for him to save us. Hank is running the show. To the first point - Hank never should have opened his mouth to begin with. OBVIOUSLY you have to talk to ARod. Everyone knows that. That's why his silly antics looked as stupid as they were. And don't kid yourself - Arod wasn't exactly standing there hat-in-hand without a suitor. He probably could have gotten >= $$ from LA. I've never been a fan of Brian Cashman [that point is fairly well documented] but I think the guy that is SUPPOSED to be in charge of player decisions needs to be able to do his job without worrying about some loud mouth compromising his position. On the flip side - this could also be theater [a la Arod] and could pan out. Time will tell. I'm not kidding myself, he was hat-in-hand. It's pretty well documented that A-Rod and Boras overplayed their hand and that no one was going to give A-Rod anywhere near the money the Yankees were. If A-Rod didn't come crawling back, he wouldn't have gotten anywhere near the money he did. They read the market without the Yankees involvement and no one was willing to give them close to the money the Yankees were. They needed to come back to the Yankees. As far as the rest, I agree with you. Hank Steinbrenner, while hilariously entertaining, is an ass. Brian Cashman isn't controlling the team. It's unfortunate because he was building a player development powerhouse that no one would have been able to compete with. Then why did the Yankees spend so much while they were bidding against themselves? A-Rod was looking for a 12-year 30 million dollar a year deal. He didn't get close to it and came crawling back to the best offer available, which is what the Yankees had initially offered. They couldn't low-ball him at that point either. That just doesn't make sense. Did they spend a lot? Obviously. Is saying A-Rod "crawled back, hat-in-hand" somewhat...ironic? I guess. But, he came back to the Yankees. He actively sought them out, made contact with them and admitted he made an error. Not much more the Yankees could've asked of him.

December 4, 200718 yr From what I'm reading today, I'd be stunned if Santana Claus wasn't acquired by the Sox. Either the Twins keep him or he goes to Boston. If we get him without giving up Ellsbury and Buchholz I'm wearing nothing but Goldtoe socks and pasties to work tomorrow.
