Coughlan to second and Uggla to third?

Featured Replies

Coughlan to second and Uggla to third? Or is Coughlan truly not ready yet?

Chris Coghlan - 2B Marlins - DOB: 06/18/85

.325/.419/.534, 10 HR, 64 RBI, 43/47 K/BB, 19 SB in 305 AB (A- Greensboro)

.200/.277/.331, 2 HR, 18 RBI, 19/15 K/BB, 5 SB in 130 AB (A+ Jupiter)

.329/.407/.425, 0 HR, 9 RBI, 8/10 K/BB, 0 SB in 73 AB (AFL Peoria)

Even if Dan Uggla sticks around once he starts getting expensive, Coghlan should be the future at second base for the Marlins. The 2006 supplemental first-round pick offers a smooth line drive stroke that should result in plenty of doubles at every level. He's also walked more often than he's struck out as a pro (75 to 72), and he hangs in well in lefty-lefty matchups. His defense isn't outstanding, but he should prove to be an upgrade over Uggla at second base by the time he's ready for the majors. It seems likely that he'll split next year between Single-A Jupiter and Double-A Carolina, but if the Marlins opt to trade Uggla, there is a chance he'll debut before the end of the season.

Sounds promising...

He needs another year plus in the minors.

If we trade Uggla for something else, they should Amezaga/Andino 2B for the year (as awful as that sounds), and let Coghlan develop as he is pretty important to the franchise.

I'd rather put Sampson at second than Andino.

I don't think Andino is THAT bad.

i don't think a retarded monkey is that bad

Yeah but Sampson would walk everytime he was at the plate, since it would be impossible to throw strike considering how short he is.

Coghlan is absolutely not ready. Love the kid, but still well over a year off.

LOL PRICELESS! Didn't a team back in the days use a short guy for this purpose? Was it the Mets?
