TNA iMPACT! Rating For This Week Was A.... (*New Record*)

Report by TNAWrestlingNews.com Staff on 06/22/2007 at 06:40 PM

1.2

TNA shattered their iMPACT! ratings record last night, scoring just over a 1.2 rating, the highest in the history of the series.

It's interesting to note that reruns of CSI: Miami were the lead-in, while reruns of the UFC Ultimate Fighter reality series followed TNA. That will have to help TNA's standing with SpikeTV as they continue to negotiate a new deal for what many in the company hope will be a two hour series.

This is great news for TNA.

- While the plans for the ?Mr. McMahon is dead? angle change on a regular basis. There appears to be division within creative regarding the direction from here on out. Some would like to see the angle dropped altogether in light of Sherri Martel?s recent passing, others want the angle to run into 2008, and another camp is wanting the angle to wrap up next month, possibly on Raw or at the 7/22 Great American Bash PPV.

- Vince McMahon himself was hands on with the 6/18 Raw, but was very frustrated how the show came off.

- It was Vince?s idea to bring back Stephanie McMahon to television, and WWE expected she would get a mixed reaction for her show ending 6/18 Raw promo.

- WWE was convinced the ?death? angle was a home run, the company secured the 3 hour Raw for 6/25. Speaking of Raw this week, Steve Austin has been asked to appear, but has yet to commit to doing it. RAW is in Texas this week.

- The actor playing chief investigator, Daniel Peck, is under the impression he will finish up on Monday.

Sorry to be a dick but 1.2 is great news? Bischoff in a shoot said it best recently. They keep on promising that this new WWE superstar they're bringing in will give them that added push but they've brought in Sting, they've brought in Christian, they've brought in the Dudley's, they've brought in Kurt Angle and they're still in a low 1. They need to actually build an alternative not WWE lite. That was somewhat happening under Damour(I've already forgotten his last name but the guy could book) but they cut his legs from under him and brought in crap like Vince Russo who is doing nothing different.

Could be a majority of people just dont come back after seeing TNA the first time. I know I thought it was awful the 3 or 4 times I watched it(and this was after some of my favs from WWE such as Kurt Angle and Christian made the jump), and now live happily without.

Put Ring of Honor on a weekly show with a PPV every few months...I will watch that.

I just hate the 6 sided ring. If it was a normal ring I might watch.

Have you ever watched a ROH show, or are you going around the internet buzz that surrounds it.

I've been to two philly shows and both were good shows but nothing special and it felt good looking around that 80% of the room were virgins and the other 10% did fat chicks. So I wasn't blown away as I was prepared to be by all the hype I got from their fans on various message boards and all the matches they showed me. See the matches they highlight are just that high lights. The average Ring of Honor match is essentially an mid 90's lower card WCW match just with much less talent in the ring. It's nothing that would excite a mainstream audience. It's basically the indie film production company of the wrestling world. They have a core group of people who like them but if you show it to most people they'll probably think you need to go back to your mom's basement.

According to WWE.com: ECW diva Trinity has been released.

Vengence results:

Lance Cade & Trevor Murdoch d. The Hardy's

Chavo Guerrero d. Jimmy Wang Yang for the Cruiserweight Title

Johnny Nitro d. C.M. Punk to win the ECW World Heavyweight Title (Nitro replaced Benoit - who was unable to make it to the PPV due to personal reasons)

Santino Marella d. Umaga via DQ (Umaga got the pinfall but was later DQ'd due to not listening to the ref)

M.V.P. d. Ric Flair

Deuce & Domino d. Sgt. Slaugher and Jimmy "Superfly" Snuka (Key point here is that Snuka worked against his son)

Edge d. Batista via Countout (Batista will not get anymore World Heavyweight Championships shots as long as Edge is champ)

Candice Michelle d. Melina to claim the WWE Women's championship

John Cena d. Mick Foley, Lashley, King Booker and Randy Orton (he F-U'd Foley to get the pin)

Some of the past champions that were in attendance include:

Dean Malenko

Mike Rotunda

Harley Race

Magnum T.A

Tony Garea and Rick Martel

That was a horrendously bad PPV....watched it at Hooters.....best pop was the retard in the store who did the Cena impression....seriously, Cena match too short, Chavo's too long...Glad Nitro won too....

Yes it sucked. I was bummed as hell when Punk lost. He's the only guy in this company I actually have a real interest in anymore. But I guess it's better because that belt means nothing right now so his win would not really be special. If they have him chase it and he can win it it'll then mean something.

If the plan comes to fruition, and ECW is nothing more than a televised developmental territory, Punk, Burke, Nitro will all be on the main rosters sooner rather than later.

Of course he will but that doesn't I don't want to see him with the belt. Odds are Burke and Cor Von will feud for a few months and their will be a Benoit, Punk, Nitro title trade that goes on for a few months.

They'll still be on the show for at least 2 to 4 months.

WWE seemed to do a nice job recognizing past champions and making this night feel special, which it should've been. However, the in-ring action left something to be desired. Maybe it was tough fitting nine matches into just under three hours, but everything seemed rushed, and no match really stood out.

The opening tag match was solid, something you know you're getting from these four guys. At least C&M won somewhat fair this time around. Chavo/Yang was disappointing, as I was expecting more from the high-flying Yang. He does more high-risk on Smackdown than he did in this match. Still, it was a prime example of the "new" cruiserweight style, so I guess we should get used to it, if we're not already.

Boy, what a disappointment not having Benoit there was. And I think it took some out of the crowd too, though I was watching at a restaurant, they seemed silent, even for Punk's offense. And I was surprised that Nitro got the win. There's more money in the chase, I guess. Santino/Umaga was a prime example of WWE's continued focus on making the referee's mean something, though I don't know why they're keeping the belt on Santino. I don't know if the crowd was still hung over from not seeing Benoit or they just don't like Santino, but I couldn't believe the pops Umaga was getting.

M.V.P/Flair didn't even go ten minutes which was a surprise. It was forgettable during an M.V.P hot streak in terms of good matches. The only thing interesting in the WWE Tag Match was (a) seeing Deuce and his father in the ring together and seeing just how bad Snuka would f*ck up and (b) seeing Rick Martel still show a lot of fire. Sign him up! The Edge/Batista match was good, and it was certainly aided by a hot finishing sequence. But boy, they sure booked Batista to look dumb.

Melina/Candice was fine, about what we expect from the women's division these days. And even the main event, while the action was pretty much non-stop, was about 10 minutes shorter than I expected. Cena getting the pin on Foley doesn't do much for either wrestler, either.

There were some surprises throughout the night (though most of the legends that came out were already on staff as agents/producers, so that was kinda disappointing), but they couldn't drag Moolah out to represent the women's title? Still a nice touch having former champs on hand. But the in-ring action was a major bring-down.

I've heard he's making a killing though on Real Estate and doesn't even wrestle the indy circuit, he'll just do fan conventions. Granted this is the WWE we're talking about so it wouldn't be a suprise if he dropped everything.

I heard a funny story though from my one friend who promotes shows in our area that Martel and the Genius are either in a relationship or have been at one point. It makes me laugh, I don't know how true it is but it really wouldn't shock me.

Well, I'm back from the TNA show and it kicked ass. Like the WWE house shows I've been too, it was much better than what you see on tv. Some great matches too.

Eric Young and Black Machismo defeated Kaz and Robert Roode w/ Tracy. The entire crowd was chanting "She has herpes!" to which she responded "Not anymore!" Eric Young did a great Hulk Hogan impression with his hulking up and the leg drop. Classic stuff.

The next picture is the Black Machismo right before he high fived me

Gail Kim defeated Jackie Moore. Got to slap hands with Gail Kim twice during the show. Once in this match, and again with the James Storm VS Chris Harris match.

LAX (who got the biggest pop of the night) defeated the teams of Seritonin and The Naturals. It was great seeing The Naturals again. They got a huge pop when their theme it, showing that TNA really needs to bring them back and do it right. Got to high five Homicide and crack knuckes with Hernandez.

Team 3D defeated AJ Stlyes and Christopher Daniels in a Tag Titles match. Also, watch TNA a week from Thursday. They were recording footage after this match to air on Spike TV and they kept camera me and D'Von that they're gonna show. After the match, Team 3D let a little kid into the ring to hold the belt and get the crowd to chant his name.

Brother Runt defeated Lance Hoyt. This was the only match on the card that felt a bit weak. One amusing point though, Runt was wearing a shirt that said Unbreakable on it and Lancy Hoyt threw him pretty viciously into the guard rail and he didn't get up for a little bit. That's when I got the arena chanting "You broke Spike!" Got to high five Runt after the match.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/bradcore81/wrestling/TNA/06-24-07/lhtbr.jpg

Chris Harris defeated James Storm in a really good match. Got some good crowd interaction in there too as Chris Harris would hold Storm down and call people from the crowd to come hit him.

Rhyno defeated Tomko. Pretty decent match. Some real nice bumps too.

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v494/bradcore81/wrestling/TNA/06-24-07/ttvsr.jpg

The main event kicked ass. Christian Cage vs Kurt Angle for the World Title. They put on one hell of a show. Half the crowd was rooting for angle and the other half was rooting for Cage (I was rooting for Cage). At one point, Kurt Angle threw Christain into me which was pretty cool. Kurt Angle won by submission with the Ankle Lock.

I actually have over 200 photos from the show, but I've only currently uploaded 63. I'll let you guys know if I upload any more. All in all, it was a great show and I recommend if you guys get the chance to go. As I stated above, the house shows are very different from what you see on tv.

Martel likes dudes?

What I've heard from that guy but that's just hearsay really. I searched google looking for anything else on it and saw something about him and Tom Zenk.

It wouldn't shock me however, I mean the guy despite being bad ass was quite flaming as the model.

Sweet Sweet, glad to see you had a good time. Even though I dislike TNA's TV product, I'll defiantly check out a house show if one comes by as they still have better wrestling talent and their's little storyline used in a house show.
