October 24, 200322 yr Florida's payroll: $53 million. New York's payroll: $180 million. Steinbrenner's frustration: priceless. Read the whole column of Dan Le batard from the Miami Herald here: Just One More - Dan Le batard
October 24, 200322 yr My fave lines... Yankee owner George Steinbrenner was so visibly bothered watching Thursday's unraveling that the game was delayed for 12 minutes when, up in a luxury box, his head exploded, spewing lava all over the field. Steinbrenner has petitioned the commissioner's office to see if he can buy Barry Bonds, Sammy Sosa and Jim Thome before the last two games of this World Series in New York, but he was informed that the Marlins have already extinguished them, too. Steinbrenner then asked how much it would cost to simply buy Game 6 and 7 outright. So now the Yankees are in a completely unfamiliar position. For all the winning they've done the last two decades, they've never once been down three games to two in a World Series. A portrait from Thursday: Penny, who pitched majestically, skipped off the mound in the seventh inning and, backed by the crowd's enormous roar, punched the air with an uppercut all of New York felt in the gut. An inning later, Dontrelle Willis struck out Alfonso Soriano and bounced off the mound with an emotional roundhouse punch to New York's kidneys. And then, at the end, as Lee and Urbina arrived at first together to end this game and let all this noise wash over them, they both punched down with their right fists, breaking the bottle over a slumped New York's head. I love it.....
October 24, 200322 yr I liked this one from Jeff Miller: "It could have been flabby, non-butt-busting David Wells suffering back spasms because he was forced to take several steps in a row without being allowed to stop at a Cheesecake Factory." October 24, 200322 yr its safe to say that the yankees dont know how to spend money. i didnt give the yanks any advantage in this series bc of thier payroll. IDEA!-the marlins do great again the AL-lets try to move to the AL east!-we can beat the yanks-and the yanks are better than the red sox-who should we be afraid of?-the braves always do great during the season-thats y the only way that we can make it to the playoffs every year is by winning the wild card!-can we move to the AL?
October 24, 200322 yr if the Yankes dont know how to spend money, what do you call the BoSox, Dodgers and NY Mets? yes, the Yanks spend too much but most of their talent is all world

October 24, 200322 yr It's a great piece of writing. From a writing stand point, Le Batard is one of the best. From a views/thoughts point of view, he's usually an idiot. But at least he can admit when he's wrong. Most writers/TV-Radio personalities haven't, and will never do that.
