March 24, 200818 yr "We Just Saved a Ton of Money on Our Payroll by Switching to Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin" Yes, Kevin Gregg is the team's resident high roller at $2.5 million, and apathy reigns supreme. The Marlins drew a major league-low 1.37 million fans with Miguel Cabrera and Dontrelle Willis on the roster last season. Now that they're gone, Dolphins Stadium should be a great place to go and curl up with a good book. That three-game weekend series with Kansas City in mid-May will be one tough ticket. a lot of them are pretty good http://sports.espn.go.com/mlb/preview08/co...&id=3306865
March 24, 200818 yr Hey at least he has us ahead of the Nats (Assuming he put those in order of where he thinks the team will finish)

March 25, 200818 yr In a couple of years it will be. ""We Just Won Another World Series Title by Switching to Andrew Miller and Cameron Maybin" Some of you people are ridiculous.. Have you been watching the same Cameron Maybin and Andrew Miller that I have? It will be 3 years before Maybin can be a respectable major league hitter, and Andrew Miller may never learn to throw strikes. It's nice to be optimistic, but come on. But come on what? You're basically saying "it's nice to be optimistic... oh, but being optimistic is stupid/useless/wrong"... Unless you're some kind of soothesayer, you can't with any certainty say WHEN Maybin will be good, or if Andrew Miller turns/doesn't turn into the next Randy Johnson. Are the odds against either of those happening slim, yeah, sure, that's fair to say. But what grants you the ability to foretell the futures of these players anymore than anyone else saying otherwise? It's fruitless debating any of this with you though, because you'll just recycle your same statements... about how we're all crazy, or that we claim to know things that we're clearing just being optimistic about, or anything of that nature. However, I'm curious... given the financial situation of the Marlins... you can play the role of Beinfest.. how do YOU handle the Miguel Cabrera situation... which cheap free agents do you pick up this offseason? Who do you draft? How do you make our current situation better? Heck, you even have the benefit of hindsight in this.

Do you remember before 2006, when there were huge questions about whether Hanley Ramirez was MLB-ready? He was competing for a job against Robert Andino. Now he wouldn't have to compete for a job with Derek Jeter. Maybin is considered much more of a guarantee than Hanley was. And Miller probably won't be an ace for a year, maybe two. But you are just being ridiculously pesimistic.
March 25, 200818 yr First off, I never said that this deal was unnecessary. Didn't say you did, and if anyone says you did, shame on them I know that we eventually would not be able to afford Miguel Cabrera. Anyone with two connected brain halves knows that. My problem isn't who we got back either. I am not real excited about Cameron Maybin or Andrew Miller, honestly, but I do think it is one of the best deals we could have gotten under the circumstances. Blunt way to put it... but really, the Marlins weren't backed in to this corner as badly as you appear to portray it... they just played their hand very badly. Teams like LAA and DET become immediate WS teams with a bat like Miguel's, albeit because they were close beforehand, but yeah. My problem is with people who say that the trade makes us a better team. We took what was our primary strength (offense) and traded it (out of necessity) and filled two weaknesses, pitching depth and a CFer instead of the 3 headed monster that is Codyjandro de Carrol... arguably, to some degree, it does make us a better team. My problem is not with Beinfest either, aside from the fact that an attempt to sign Cabrera at a reasonable rate should have been made 3 years ago. To say that we are a better team now without Cabrera is so far beyond stupid that I can't believe that I am even responding to it. Then why do you? Even if both of them became very good to great players, we still don't win this trade- because Detroit has signed Cabrera to what will eventually be considered a bargain deal. And *knock on wood* Miggy could break his leg tomorrow, or go the way of Cecil Fielder or any number of perfectly reasonable things that could cause a drop in performance. I honestly don't care what the opinion of anyone on here is on the subject, and I seriously doubt anyone cares what I think, so in the grand scheme of things it doesn't really matter at all what I or anyone else says. Then why bother even posting, why waste your time and energy? And who cares. Think about that before answering the above :thumbup
