Mike Jacobs/Luis Gonzalez

i saw this on an espn insider article(and was almost just as shocked that they pointed out somethin positive about the marlins) jacobs recently has had the hot bad against pedro

After missing most of last season following rotator cuff surgery on his right shoulder, Pedro Martinez showed up to spring training healthy and ready to join offseason acquisition Johan Santana in forming one of the best righty-lefty combinations in the league.

Santana got the job done on Opening Day. Now it's Martinez's turn to tee it up against a Marlins team that ended the Mets' season for good on the final day of 2007. There seem to be only two things that can possibly stand in Martinez's way: Marlins lefty sluggers Mike Jacobs and Luis Gonzalez.

Martinez has figured out Gonzalez in recent years, holding him to just two hits in 10 at-bats since 2006, but Jacobs is another story. Pay attention to Martinez's first pitch to Jacobs. The Marlins' first baseman is one of the most likely hitters in the league to swing on 0-0 counts, and he has done plenty of damage to Martinez's first offering -- especially when it's left over the middle of the plate:

hope that works

I don't expect anything individually from this game. But I do expect the team as a whole to fare better than last night.

I think more important for us really is our pitching. If Hurk can have a good outing and not get blown up out there, we have as much a shot as anytime.

I have no doubt or worry that we can score off Pedro. The question is how much they score off us.
