Q Video, a division of QVC, and Major League Baseball Productions pay tribute to the Marlins in The Official 2003 World Series DVD, available beginning Thursday for $19.95 on MLB.com and QVC.com. The DVD includes 30 minutes of bonus footage. The World Series DVD Premiere Screening was shown Monday night at the Regal South Beach Cinema 18. Center fielder Juan Pierre, infielder Lenny Harris, pitcher Michael Tejera, pitching coach Wayne Rosenthal and special assistant to the team president Andre Dawson were among the several hundred invited to the showing. "This has been very exciting," said Pierre, the speedy center fielder who embodied the Marlins' success with his strong work ethic. "Every time I try to relax, something happens where you relive it, and I get all excited again. I'm still in a whirlwind." Reliving all the drama of the playoffs, the gathering in the theater cheered the great plays and memorable moments, which ranged from catcher Ivan Rodriguez tagging out J.T. Snow of the Giants to end the Division Series to Josh Beckett tagging Jorge Posada of the Yankees for the final out in Game 6 of the World Series. Major League Baseball Productions' Emmy award-winning crew chronicled all the action of the Marlins' second World Series title. The DVD starts out with Rodriguez and Yankees pitcher Roger Clemens driving to their respective first days of Spring Training. After going back to the beginning, the DVD recaptures how the Marlins and Yankees made their ways respectively through the playoffs to the World Series. Florida overcame a 3-1 deficit to the Cubs in the NLCS to win the series in seven games. The Yankees advanced to the Fall Classic by rallying past the Red Sox in Game 7 of the ALCS on Aaron Boone's walk-off homer in extra innings. Highlights of the DVD include how the Marlins scratched out a 3-2 win in Game 1 at Yankee Stadium, with Brad Penny pitching a strong game. When the series shifted to Pro Player Stadium in Miami, the Series intensified after Alex Gonzalez's walk-off home run in the 12th inning of Game 4 evened the Series at 2-2. Game 4 included Clemens' dramatic final start, and the touching standing ovation the future Hall of Famer received from the fans and players. Showing how Clemens' legacy transcended the Series was displayed when the entire Marlins' team applauded the Yankee veteran, a gesture that deeply touched one of the game's all-time greats. Along with the memorable highlights were behind-the-scenes footage and exclusive interviews with the players and managers. After Beckett's landmark 2-0 shutout in Game 6, giving the Marlins the title 4-2, Rodriguez walked the bases with his son. When he reached home at Yankee Stadium, the veteran catcher lowered himself to kiss the plate. "We want to give people a perspective of the World Series that they didn't see on TV," said Steve Fortunato, Senior Managing Producer for Major League Baseball Productions. "We took our cameras where they weren't supposed to go." The Marlins became an embracing underdog story led by 72-year-old manager Jack McKeon, who turned a team that was 10-games under .500 into the Wild Card winners with a 91-71 record. A throwback team, the Marlins excelled because they bonded as a team. McKeon insisted that no individual egos were going to stand in the way. "I think a lot of the success had to do with the fact this team has so much youth," said Dawson, a former MVP with the Cubs. "Some of the veteran guys weren't afraid to get in their faces. The veteran guys knew where the leadership had to come from. The younger guys basically had the mindset of doing their part, and not doing more than what their capabilities were. They were able to bring all of that together."
November 19, 200322 yr Major League Baseball Productions has always been known for its amazing access to the players and the way they cover a baseball-related event, whether it be the All-Star game, Hall of Fame induction ceremonies or the World Series. So when their official DVD of the 2003 World Series between the New York Yankees and Florida Marlins opens, it comes as no surprise that the first thing you see is video shot back in February of the Marlins' Ivan Rodriguez driving to his first day of Spring Training with his new team in Jupiter, Fla., and talking about what he hoped to accomplish in 2003. Meanwhile in Tampa, MLB Productions is with Roger Clemens as he is driving to his final Spring Training with the Yankees, talking about how important it is for his team to make it back to the World Series. Little did anyone realize that both stars would face each other in the 2003 Fall Classic. "How cool is it that eight months ago we were in cars with Pudge Rodriguez and Roger Clemens on the first day of their Spring Trainings, not knowing these two would meet," said Steve Fortunato, Senior Managing Producer for MLB Productions. "We're very proud of that and we feel it really will get the viewer locked into this immediately." The DVD covers both team's stories in great detail, especially the Marlins, a team that went from 10 games under .500 at the end of April to a world championship in October. "Every series that was played in the postseason the Florida Marlins were always the other team," says Fortunato. "They're playing the Giants -- how long until they're done? They're playing the Cubs -- how long until they're eliminated? And they're playing the Yankees. There is no way they're going to beat the Yankees after what they just did to Boston. I'm really glad we never stopped rolling our cameras on the Marlins during that time. Everyone loves a great Cinderella story and that's what we focused on in this production." In the past, MLB Productions has always filmed the World Series. This year, they employed high-definition video, allowing the production company a faster editing schedule so it can make its Nov. 20 release date. "We used special Panasonic cameras called varicams that achieved that cinematic look," says Fortunato. "It was tough to let go of film, but budget-wise it allowed us to have more of these cameras, to shoot more and to ultimately cover the event better than we have in the past. I think it worked out well and we'll let the viewers be the judge." A perfect example is the attention to detail that was used in Game 4 of the series by the company. The game was Clemens final career start and the DVD spends a great deal of time covering this historical moment and the rest of the game, which ended up being the turning point of the series. "It was probably the best game of the series," says Fortunato. "Despite the fact that it ended with a walk-off home run by Alex Gonzalez, which hadn't happened to the Yankees in a World Series since Bill Mazeroski in 1960, you had arguably the greatest pitcher of our generation pitch his last game. "One thing I'm very proud of is that we not only had our top cinematographers on the field, but we realized that Clemens would probably not throw a complete game, whether it was on the winning side or losing side I wanted to him leaving the dugout and going down the tunnel for the last time. So I had one of our cinematographers literally camped out in front of the Yankee clubhouse, knowing that we would be the only ones able to achieve that shot, which to me ... is baseball history. You can see that Roger is weeping, he's wiping the tears away from his eyes as he's walking into the clubhouse. I looked at that piece of video and thought, wow, that's the last time he will ever wear a uniform as a player." Besides the 72 minutes covering the World Series, the DVD has plenty of bonus footage that not only brings the World Series, but the entire season into perspective for the two clubs. The bonus footage include: # Aaron Boone's walk-off homer in Game 7 of the ALCS against Boston. # Jack McKeon's press conference when he took over as the Marlins manager, replacing Jeff Torborg. # Key moments from the NLDS against the Giants, including Pudge Rodriguez tagging out J.T. Snow at the plate to end the series. # The Marlins' amazing comebacks in Games 6 & 7 of the NLCS against the Cubs, including the now infamous foul ball involving Moises Alou. So for baseball fans, the 2003 World Series DVD is a nice addition to your baseball library. The World Series DVD is also available in VHS format and will be in stores on Nov. 20.

November 20, 200322 yr i got my DVD already in marlins en miami. i waited there for about 20 minutes and when 3:45 rolled around they came. 30 of em. about 6-8 of em were sold off the bat and more are comin tomm morning in case anyone is interested. well im off to watch it.

Ha ha... too freaking funny........ Do people not pay attention on here?! WOW Anyways, yes, we did receive our FIRST batch of the DVDs this afternoon and we were the FIRST to have them on sale. FLCL00- Didn't someone tell you that it's worth the wait?! Oh yeah...that could have possibly been ME! That's right......you bought the DVD from ME :lol
