April 14, 200818 yr I am somewhat on board with sending Miller down, not as punishment for his last start, which wasn't as bad, but more for his own sake. He needs a chance to collect himself, and get back to throwing strikes and see if he can get to blowing away AA and/or AAA hitters. That said, I'd rather not rush Volstad either. I know he's doing well, but I'll again throw out a suggestion that I know I will hear it for making, but sign BK. Odds are in most cases that BK goes 5 or 6 innings and gives up no more than 4 runs, which means it's simply a question of whether or not our offense shows up and comes together that night. I know people here say how bad BK is, but look at it this way - any of the young guys who aren't ready can potentially do just as bad. However, the more we do that with the young guys, the more we will end up screwing up their head and their confidence. Whereas if BK gives us subpar outings, there's no long term damage to the future rotation. And remember again, even with our hot start, lets remember that our rotation is in a rebuilding stage, and we shouldn't expect so much at this point in the season. We will live & die by our offense (mostly) for the time being. For that bring up Weachter or even Barone for that matter. If Bk could give you 6 ip and 4 runs constantly, he would already have a job somewhere.

Or...(fill in the blank)... Patience, people. I hear it's a virtue. Andrew settled down and pitched a pretty good game. And for what it's worth, so did Hopper on Sunday. I'm not so sure if I would say Volstad isn't ready. He can still use some time to develop in the minors, but he showed in ST that he can compete at the major league level.

Especially that last game vs the Yankees. The kid has poise and some good stuff. But Miller is getting it together since he is going back to the heat. Hopper was impresive. Couple more starts each to see if improvement continues. Volstad WILL make his debut this year. Be patient, don't rush things if we don't have to. And right now we don't have to.

Looks to me like the Tigers are grooming Miggy for 1B. Probably a good idea because he can't play 3B with any consistency. And 10 games into the seaon when a guy goes 1 for 5 and it actually raises his BA.... But wait!!! Miggy broke .200 last night!!! The guy is a stud!!! Get over it already. The prima donna playing the blue collar position is gone. He got his big pay day. Now let's see if he lives up to it or if he just becomes a very expensive DH. My guess is the latter. But only after Sheff is gone from that team. I just don't want to see Sheff and Al Sharpton standing shoulder to shoulder in front of all the cameras explaining why Sheff lost the DH role.

April 16, 200818 yr Miller should watch the game tape of Olsen's outing tonight. To paraphrase John Kruk this evening, "It looks like Olsen is showing maturity. When Olsen got in trouble he didnt try to overpower and throw fastball after fastball to get outs. He mixed pitches and speeds well and kept throwing offspeed stuff away from the power hitters and it was effective." It's exactly as I've said before in game threads, Miller keeps throwing 2 strike fastballs down the pike; he needs to get ahead with strikes and get outs with junk; throw offspeed stuff away and make the hitters bail him out

But in truth I do wish him well and hope he finds his niche. Hell of a bat, but instead of a glove he should just be putting on those mittens with the string that attaches them.
April 16, 200818 yr The kid has great stuff dont get me wrong but some more time in the minor leagues wouldnt hurt. Give him a few months and then bring him back up so he can do some real damage.
