October 27, 200322 yr Have Zito, Mulder, and Hudson hoisted the World Series trophy? Has Zito won Series MVP? How about Hudson or Mulder? Nope. Yeah, they are real great during the regular season, but if you suck in the playoffs then what is the point?

October 27, 200322 yr Well, Beckett has yet to win more than 9 games in a season; he has awesome potential, but he needs to put some good seasons together before we pick him over guys like Zito, Mulder, etc. And, oh yeah, our last MVP never made it to the elite class-so let's not rush to judgment. Look at Beckett's career numbers and tell me they aren't great. His stuff is udderly outstanding. And Livan Hernandez certainly came into his own this season.

October 27, 200322 yr Our rotation rocks, I wouldn't change it for anyone at this point. Young, talented, clutch performing and with WORLD SERIES Experience!!!!!!!!!! I DO FEEL Lucky as every one of us should!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I expect big thing from Burnett on 2004. I think he has a burning desire to excell after seeing his buddies go all the way . . .

Yeah, they are real great during the regular season, but if you suck in the playoffs then what is the point? Has Beckett won a Cy Young or finished in the top 5? Has he been to an All-Star game? Or are you subscribing to the notion that there is such a value as "Clutchness", in which case Derek Jeter is better than Barry Bonds.

October 27, 200322 yr I don't know about you, but if I'm in the playoffs I'd start Jeter over Bonds any day. Our rotation sure does have the talent. Hell, Beckett, Penny, Pavano, Willis, Redman, Burnett have all shown flashes of brilliance at times. They can do anything! They can outperform a pitching staff of Pedro Martinez, Nolan Ryan, Greg Maddux, Mark Prior and Randy Johnson (Steinbrenner is salivating) in their primes. They just haven't shown to do it consistently.

October 27, 200322 yr Who leaves the rotation next year is what I've been wondering? I mean you can't have 6. I guess anything is possible, but that would be very unique. Everyone had their moments and showed their worth in the playoffs. How will they decide who to drop?

To be fair, Beckett's 17-17 career record is far from outstanding. His other stats are good, though. Let him get through a whole year healthy first before touting his stats.

And Becket wouldve had more games won this season if it wasnt for A. Injury B. Lack of run support. You dont take away the value of having pitched 9 COMPLETE SCORELESS INNINGS against the NEW YORK YANKEES. Oh and did i mention this happened in a CLINCHING WORLD SERIES GAME?!!? Pedro Martinez wishes he had Beckett's Left nut, so do Mulder Hudson and Zito

Pedro Martinez wishes he had Beckett's Left nut, so do Mulder Hudson and Zito Three points, then I'm done. I'd rather have Bonds than Jeter over a 162-game season just because of the offense he generates - OPS and all that. There comes a time when you just have to go with the statistics. Also, Zito/Hudson/Mulder have to deal with a terrible offense, worse than the Marlins. Now, shutting out the Yankees is great, and I expect Beckett will be a Clemens-type over the course of his career (although I'm pissed that he wasn't this good in 2002, when I had him in my fantasy league. Stupid blisters), but you have to get a full-season 90% injury free, to make a proper evaluation. At this point, Prior and the Oakland trio have him beat. BTW, regular season performance shouldn't be discounted, because it does determing if you get the opportunity to play in the post-season.

October 27, 200322 yr Um, do the A's have to face the kind of pitching that we do in the NL East? No. Their offense can put up numbers against the mighty mighty pitching staffs of the Angels and Rangers.
