October 26, 200322 yr burnett coming back won't necessarily make this rotation the BEST.. even if he does manage to make it to the starting rotation, you have to keep in mind that most pitchers don't pitch as well for their first year after tommy john surgery. it's how hard he works at conditioning his arm (and shoulder) this offseason and for the next year that determines how hot he'll be in 2005. but just because he's back in 2004 doesn't mean his rehab is anywhere close to being over. he'll be a stud in '05

October 26, 200322 yr really? it seems to me like the A's Offense sucks in the postseason, not their pitching Oh, their offense is atrocious. But their pitchers, for the most part, did not deliver as much as they needed to. well i guess pitchers meaning as a whole because Hudson, Mulder, and Zito normally come through I don't care what the numbers say, the A's choke year after year in the playoffs, and even if the pitching is good, it's not good enough to win, simple as that.

October 26, 200322 yr Author I'm sorry, I am taking Beckett over ANY of these young pitchers from A's, Cubs, etc. Our staff, our rotation is BETTER than the A's, better than the Cubs. Look at the numbers, look at the results. We faced Prior and Wood and beat them when we needed to. They failed. Beckett got it done in Game 5. Came in Game 7 and gave up one hit over 4IP. And he dominated on just 2 days rest. Let me know when Mulder, Hudson, or Zito do that. The funny thing is, all the praise and a**-kissing these 'experts' do for Billy Beane and his softball team, that team has missed the mark continuously. They dont perform when it has counted. This year will be different, I think everyone will be keeping their eye on Beinfest and wont be as willing to make deals with our ballclub. Eventhough, we have been very fair in our trades. Initially anyway. The fact is, with Beckett, Burnett and a grown-up Penny, no MLB staff will overmatch us. The A's would have to be at their best and the Cubs will have to as well. Here is how I would rank rotations: Marlins - Beckett, Burnett, Penny, Pavano, Willis, and Redman. Cubs - Prior, Wood, Zambrano, Clement. A's - Zito, Mulder, Harden, Hudson. I think the best pitcher on the A's will be Harden. That said, not only do we have 5 guys under 30, hell, 3 under 25, but we have some arms still in the lower levels that could help us reload in the future. Right now, we are sitting very, very pretty. Also, you dont trade Redman until Burnett is healthy - 2005. Dont start Burnett this next year until maybe August/September.

October 27, 200322 yr Beckett is great, but I'm not sure I'd pick him over Zito, Prior, Mulder and some others. A great world series is fine, but season stats r even more important. Many pitchers have had great games in series and never became great pitchers. Pavano is better than Penny.

It is an excuse Beane makes because he signs and trades for players that can excel when there is no pressure but choke when it counts. The regular season is for boys, the playoffs are for men. Sabremetric GMs with their heads up their asses need not apply.

Well, Beckett has yet to win more than 9 games in a season; he has awesome potential, but he needs to put some good seasons together before we pick him over guys like Zito, Mulder, etc. And, oh yeah, our last MVP never made it to the elite class-so let's not rush to judgment.
