May 19, 200818 yr Rotoworld.com broke down each team... Here is Florida's: Florida - The Marlins have plenty of hitters with quality numbers at Triple-A Albuqerque, but their most promising talents are in Double-A. Right-handers Chris Volstad and Ryan Tucker are about to become rotation options with the super-two "deadline" about to pass. Volstad is 3-1 with a 2.79 ERA, 47 H and 40/22 K/BB in 58 IP. Tucker is 2-2 with a 1.03 ERA, 35 H and 47/19 K/BB in 52 1/3 IP. Volstad remains the better prospect of the two despite weaker numbers. That's because he generates so many grounders with his sinker. Tucker is also very talented, but he's not quite as much of a sleeper for this year. Volstad will be worth trying in NL-only leagues as soon as he's called up. ? Rick VandenHurk also likely will get another chance to start if he can overcome his arm troubles. ? Cameron Maybin is hitting .243/.377/.403 with a 56/29 K/BB ratio in 144 at-bats. He remains a monster talent, but the Marlins clearly had the right idea when they sent him down before the end of the spring. That Jacque Jones is set to arrive further decreases the chances that Maybin will be of use in fantasy leagues this year. ? Former Angel Dallas McPherson is the most interesting player at Albuquerque. He's hitting .283/.388/.591 with 12 homers in an environment very favorable for hitters. OBP would be a big problem in the majors -- he's fanned 56 times in 37 minor league games -- but he would hit a homer per week if the Marlins went to him. He'd also play better defense at third than Jorge Cantu
May 19, 200818 yr Thanks for the update. Volstad and Tucker should see the big leagues this season for sure. Volstad could be up in the next month or two. I'd be really surprised if Maybin is anything more than a September call up. He still has a ways to go.

I agree, however I wouldn't be surprised if Volstad is called up sooner if Badenhop continues to perform poorly. I could see The Hopper being put on the DL all of the sudden and Volstad quietly being called up to take his spot in the rotation. Tucker may be called up after the All Star game

May 19, 200818 yr Super-Two has to do with service time in MLB and when it would make a player arbitration eligible. In other words, Super-Twos become arbitration eligible quicker, so the team wants to stall another month or so.
May 19, 200818 yr This website has good information on arbitration and super two status, but it is still really confusing.
May 19, 200818 yr Does anyone know the date of the super two deadline? Depends on the team, but once we play 75 games or so we should be clear.

Don't be so sure about Ryan Tucker... he still in his first year of AA, and still needs to build up experience, he's only got 8 games there too... we don't have to rush everyone
May 19, 200818 yr There is no deadline. The players between 2 and 3 years of service time are ranked according to service time. The 17% that are closest to 3 years of service time are granted arbitration eligibility a year early. It's a way of rewarding players that accumulated a lot of service time. A common misconception is that it has to do with a player's performance. Not the case. Teams routinely hold off bringing up talented prospects too early hoping that enough other players compile enough service time. There is no "deadline". Just an estimate.
