Enough with Mike Jacobs

Featured Replies

Jacobs' power is very good, even for a first baseman. But his on-base and defensive abilities are so far below an average first basemen that even his ample power can't make up for these deficiencies. The organization can, and should, do much better at 1B than Mike Jacobs.

That said, a poor defensive 1B who can't get on base doesn't have much trade value. He's going to be here for the remainder of 2008 unless an AL team in desperate need of a lefthanded DH comes calling. The chances of that are slim.

Catcher is a much bigger hole than 1B anyway. Of course, there are no internal solutions to the catcher problem like there are the first base problem.
