He is a liability with the bat, and he leaves a huge hole on the right side of the infield. It seems he plays a huge role in every loss. Is there any reason at all that he should be playing?

NO! i think after this game is over he HAS to be traded for a catcher or another bullpen arm. seriousley give mcpherson a chance, he cant be much worse than jacobs with the bat and he will certainley be much better defensivley

I rarely comment on players, but DAMN he is driving me crazy. I've never seen a player swing at so many bad pitches and his defense is horrid! I think he really needs to be traded.

I'm tired of it. I can accept that he sucks defensively, but if all he's gonna do is hit HR's...and HR's in games like the other day when we were losing 14-0 against TB, then he can sit on the bench. At least with Helms, our defense actually looks average out there.

Yea every time Jake comes up I yell Rally Killer because I know he will halt any shot of a big inning and slow down anything good we are doing.

I admit, I'm a Jake fan, and I was happy to see him starting off the year hot. But he's got so bad with the bat at this point, I don't think it's just a slump. And it wouldn't be so bad if he could draw a walk now and then, but he only has 11 on the year. That is just unacceptable for an all-or-nothing hitter that he is. I've come to terms with the fact that it's soon time to move on from Jake.

This is not an impulsive thread...I'm basically just at the point that I'm sick and tired of watching Jacobs kill this team. His defense is inexcusable. IMO it would take a herculean effort with the bat to make up for his defensive shortcomings, and it's clear he's never going to be a guy who gives you quality at bats. We simply cannot let his defense keep costing us games. His play this year is virtually indefensible.

I disagree. Admin was quoted a week or so ago saying just the opposite. Pitching, speed, and defense. And he did say that if the defense didn't improve there would be changes made. I was all for trading Jake this off season but there was some question as to who to replace him with that was currently on the team. With the interleague play of Cantu at 1B I now think that answer is there. I'm not so sure they will pull the trigger during the season, but it wouldn't bother me a bit to see him gone, Cantu moved to 1B, and Dallas brought up. I still don't think that would be enough to make this team a legitimate play off contender, but it sure would look good trying to get these guys ready for next year.

If we are still within reach of the playoffs when Johnson, Sanchez and Mitre come back, then I think we will see some moves to make a playoff run.

 

Olsen and Nolasco could remain in the rotation. Hendrickson, Tuker and A. Miller to the bullpen. De la Cruz and Kensing and J. Miller to minors.

 

Call up Dallas, bench Jacobs, Cantu to 1B. Andino to minors.

 

And if we are really close to the division lead by the trading deadline, try to trade for a closer and catcher.

Amen! Move Cantu to 1B and big Mac to 3rd! Ever since 06, I can't really say I ever like Jacobs. We fell for his hot second half with the mets even tho most of his big numbers came from a scorched earth series in Arizona when he played for the mutts in '05.

All this accusing of impulsive threads being a sign of bandwagoners is dumb, I think. Bandwagoners would not even bother with starting such a thread. Besides, I feel comfortable with saying that most everyone who has taken part in this thread are more than just bandwagon fans. I think it is a stretch to even suggest that. That being said, Jacobs NEEDS to stop sucking a fat one. He either needs to learn how to stop being an idiot (which is unlikely) or be benched. He would be better coming off the bench. Even if Dallas McPherson can't hit the RBIs or HRs or if he falls short in any category compared to Jake I would bet any money to anyone on this board that his OBP will be higher than Jake if and when he moves up to the majors.

Bob we heard that last year, and the year before that, and did any REAL changes happen ??? Forget what Beinfest says, look at his actions. McPherson hasn't seen this club yet, but he has some of the most impressive numbers in AAA. Its like they dance with all the pretty girls around him, but never ask him to dance. They are afraid he will be the difference maker, and make a winner out of this team. That is not on the fiscal agenda of this management at this time (and I am doubting at anytime in the future -- hopefully they sell the team when contruction begins) and certainly not this year, when they are trying their best to hoard as much money as possible for the stadium or a move if the stadium fails.

 

How many betters are willing to bet they won't make any bigtime trades to help this team ? What will you say then ?

I doubt it. I don't see us trading him because the guy is a bad baseball player and contending teams are not looking for bad baseball players. I think what will happen is that next year we wont offer him arbitration and he'll end up signing elsewhere for cheap.
