2009 Florida Marlins

Featured Replies

If history is any indicator, they will win the WS in '09 because they win the WS every 6 years.

Before everyone continues to say Florida Marlins - 2009 World Series Champions, how about setting a more realistic and achievable goal and say Florida Marlins - 2009 Playoff Team.

Obviously I want us to win the WS, but considering there will be numerous changes in the offseason, I would be ecstatic if we just made the playoffs next year, having never witnessed a Marlins playoff game.

Except that they won their first title in their 5th season of playing ball.

Raul Ibanez = Fail

.306 Batting Average, 23 Home Runs, 102 RBI's.

Yes, definite fail.

yea but its not like we can sign him and thats the fail

If we could it would be great but 1 where would we put him

2 how would we pay him

3 how is he availible

1. Trade Hermida, and put him in RF. He normally plays LF, but can play either one just as good.

2. He's only making $5.5 million this year, which isn't that much. So, if we sign him after this season, it would probably be even less since he is aging.

3. He becomes a FA after this season.

$5.5mil would be more than anyone on the team (tied with Hanley in 09). He's having a great year, and you think his contract demands might go down? Come on. And then there's the whole fact that he wouldn't sign with the Marlins anyway.

aurillia?

Sanchez with his lack of speed batting 2nd?

and De La Cruz blows hes not gonna be in our pen if he keeps doin this

o and Baker is gonna catch but we need some 1 else

aurillia can hit left handed pitching and can play first and third

You dont need speed in the second hole. Sanchez is the a good #2 hitter because of his plat discipline and he makes great contact.

yea your right, lol i dont know what i was thinkin.

Why would Sanchez be batting second?

Where would the Marlins get the money to resign Uggla?

If the Marlins were to sign Aurillia, wouldn't he be starting?

Who would be the last player in the bullpen?

again, sanchez is a perfect #2 hitter because of his patience and ability to make contact.

Where will they get the money to sign Raul Ibanez?

No. He'll be a good bat off the bench

Yea, De la Cruz wasnt the best option.

Maybin (CF)

The number two hitter should have speed though, shouldn't they?

Ibanez would probably be about half the price of Uggla.

Aurillia would be one of the highest paid players on the team to sit on the bench? Especially when he is still a good player?

I didn't mean that. I meant you only have 6, instead of 7 (the normal amount) players in the bullpen.

It would be an advantage, but IMO i dont think they all need great speed. Plus, its not like sanchez is mike jacobs slow.

No, he wouldnt. I think Uggla is set to make around 5 mill in arbitartion.

highest paid players? No he wouldnt. We can give him a 1 year contract for 2-3 million just like gonzalez.

but de la cruz still isnt the best choice. and i thought i put 7, my bad.

If I'm not mistaken, I think he's close to it.

If Ibanez signed a multi-year contract, he would probably only make $2-3 million next year, but I see your point.

Remember, this is the Marlins. $2-3 Million is one of the highest salaries on the team, except Aurillia is much better than Gonzo in my opinion.

De La Cruz still has time to imrpove. He could be decent within a short while.

ibanez is going to be making way more money than he did this season. he's having a great year and isn't getting paid much so he's going to go after the dough.

Not if he signs a 3 or 4 year contract. Plus, he's going to be 37 years old next season.

Fish Dynasty, dont get me wrong. Id love to have Ibanez. I just dont think we can afford him because i think this front office wants to keep uggla for one more year.

I see your point. I just think that we need an outfielder more than a second baseman, with Coghlan coming up. Hopefully the Marlins will try to sign him.
