Car issues.

Featured Replies

Just a few minutes ago I tried to start my car but it wouldnt start. The lights, wipers turned on fine but the car would not turn over. This is the first time I have had issues with my car. I got a new battery sometime early spring 2006. Could it be a dead battery? If there is something else wrong with my car I can blame it on my dad because he drove it last :haha:.

OK, when you try to start the car, do the lights dim?

Not really. But its kinda hard to tell since I did not really pay attention to the brightness of my lights before. When I tried to start the car my mom noticed an odd smell coming from the engine.

Well, that's never a good sign.

I know, i've been gone for almost 1 month and I come back to a dead car lol. *looks at my dad* He drove it when I was away.

If it wasn't driven then that may be the problem... cars are meant to be driven, and when they sit its not good for them, but that isn't always the case. He probably F-ed some sh*t up

Things to check:

-Your oil level.

-If you have low fuel, add a gallon or two.

-If you have a voltmeter, hook it up to your battery to see if it's dead. Try jumpstarting it.

It works now. My dad turned the key a few times until the car started. It was squeeling for a few seconds :haha:. So I guess it was just rusty from sitting in the garage. My dad said he did use my car because it gets over 10 mpg than his car. Thanks for the help guys.

That doesn't sound good if he has been using it. Hopefully you don't get stranded.

It has been almost 2 weeks since he has used it and he is going to get it checked out for me.

Could also be a bad starter, or ignition. On my impala, the ignition is horrible. I have to play with it sometimes for like 10 minutes turning the key on and off until it turns on. And yes guys, I know what I'm talking about. I once owned a body shop and suspension shop, and I paint cars for a living. And I also build lowrider cars so I am mechanically inclined...lol

The gasoline probably degraded from lack of use. I'd fill it up ASAP.

That is a great point. This E-10 garbage can really screw things up. Once the E-10 is 4 weeks old, the ethanol begins to evaporate. Then the fuel becomes a mixture of water, and low octane gasoline. Make sure you add some kind of octane boost, and refill.
