August 24, 200818 yr This is for louiecastillo, Mungo...and you all other Dolfans. My fantasy football draft is next Sunday, and I have a question for you guys, who probably pay more attention to the Dolphins. Alright, while I think the Dolphins won't win more than 3-4 games this year...I do find their defense pretty intriguing. Guys like Merling, Roth, Langford, Crowder, etc. ... they seem to have some potential, and Sparano seems like the type of coach who preaches perfection, as well. So...my question is...? Should I take the Dolphins as my backup defense? They've played well, apparently, in preseason...although the Jaguars and the Chiefs, especially, suck on offense. What do you guys think? I can get them, I'm sure in the last round of the draft, as fantasy experts have them listed low amongst defenses...but they don't know EVERYTHING (a lot of that is based on last year). It would give me time to draft specific needs, and save my backup D for last. Also...special teams are included with the D, and the Dolphins have Ginn returning punts, as well. Thoughts?

The Dolphin's D will be in the bottom half of the league, they just don't have anything special on that side of the ball. Every single guy would have to have career best type years and stay completely injury free for them to be just good on defense. I see that defense and I say that every single guy that is a projected starter would be a great guy to have as your #2 on the depth chart on a good team. I think they end up having one of the five worse defenses in all of football...

I think they end up having one of the five worse defenses in all of football... Well, they also play the Patriots twice a year, as well (not good). Forget it...maybe it was just a crazy thought. I've been wondering and thinking all these thoughts for a couple days now. Winner gets $600. Should be fun. I'll see what I do. RB's are the main priority anyways. I'll have plenty of time to think about my primary D (around the 10th round) let alone the backup D, lol.
August 24, 200818 yr If they are your backup D, why not? You'll only have to use them once, or if they do turn out to better then everyone thinks you look smart and have some trade leverage. Besides, it's a backup D...you'll probably drop and add teams to that spot a few times during the season anyway. Just look at the schedule and see what week your primary D is on the bye. If the Fins are playing Baltimore or San Fran or someone with a poor offsense, then it is worth a shot.
August 24, 200818 yr The Jaguars were 6th in the league in scoring last year at 25.7 points per game. They don't suck on offense. The Chiefs suck on offense for sure, but not the Jags. Sorry, but I just need to defend my team. As for the Dolphins' D, why not if if they are going to be your backup? You'll only play them once during the year, and there's sure to be waiver pickups on D if things get ugly. Just my two cents.
August 26, 200818 yr hell yea do it If porter is healthy in the middle LB the defense looks very good Plus there jusy backup
August 26, 200818 yr I am a big Dolphins fan. But I have to say the only Phins u want on ur team are Channing Crowder (if u have defensive players also), Ted Ginn Jr. and maybe Ricky Williams depending on Ronnie Browns health. The defense are not stoppers. The give up a ton of first downs, are not an interception/forced fumble kind of team. They will give up 21 points a game for sure. Remember, there are a lot of rookies and first time starters on defense, don't be stupid, if u want to look for a steal go after Oakland or Indianapolis D.

Remember John Beck was the savior last preseason when he led 2 game winning drives. Chad Henne has more touchdown passes than Tom Brady and Peyton Manning in the preseason, does that make him better? :mis2 Yes, Porter will be better, but remember he is still very high up in age, our CB's are still getting burned on deep routes and cut backs. We have a good LB'ing core, but very inexperienced on the D-Line and slow at the CB position.

August 27, 200818 yr Author To be fair, the Dolphins front 7 (at least, imo) isn't that bad. The only reason I'm hesitant to take them in the last round, as my backup D, is b/c I think the secondary sucks.

All he's proven is that he's a good candidate to get hurt, sometime in the year.

September 1, 200818 yr Author Well, I had the draft today...and I did not draft any Dolphins; which is probably a good thing. Anyways... QB- Ben Roethlisberger (PIT), Jay Cutler (DEN) RB- Marshawn Lynch (BUF), Chris Johnson (TEN) / Jonathan Stewart (CAR) -- (depending on matchups with the 2nd RB) WR- Terrell Owens (DAL), Wes Welker (NE), James Hardy (BUF) / Vincent Jackson (SD) -- (depending on matchups with the 3rd WR) TE- Antonio Gates (SD), Dustin Keller (NYJ) K- Shayne Graham (CIN) D/ST- Seahawks (SEA), Jets (NYJ) -- (Jets are my backup, but I'm starting them week 1, against the Dolphins...I like to go with matchups). Anyways...wutcha' think?

For example, playing them against the Dolphins offense = playing them, correctly.

So that leaves Ricky Williams, and the Jets have a solid front 7. They'll be fine. Plus, Leon Washington and Justin Miller are good returners as well, so I might get points for special teams.

Ted Ginn is a monster hes gonna have a great year especially with Pennington but we have secret weapons that i wont tell you about but they are a great part of our offense o and Pennington can scramble, move well out of the pockect and is smart in placing the ball and who to throw it to
September 1, 200818 yr Author Ted Ginn is a monster hes gonna have a great year especially with Pennington but we have secret weapons that i wont tell you about but they are a great part of our offense o and Pennington can scramble, move well out of the pockect and is smart in placing the ball and who to throw it to Ted Ginn was terrible last year. Pennington is smart, has good accuracy...but has no arm (so why worry?) I don't care if he can scramble; he's not Michael Vick, when he does. And I only see one secret weapon...Anthony Fasano, simply b/c TE's seem to do well, when they play in Parcells' system...and Parcells seems to like the guy b/c Fasano was in Dallas, as well. Aside from that, I don't see it... Btw, my team name is "Vick in the Box." Gangsta, huh?
September 1, 200818 yr yeap fasano and peale i forget his first name are 1 hell of a TE cRew Fasano is such a beast for a TE and O its Justin Peale he is tall so he gets thoose lobs in the end zone Ted Ginn is gonna be very good this year after his crappy first year but hey we had no QB o and pennington dosent need a strong arm as long as we keep moving the chains were good and hes not like vick but if he gets room he can get a good 8 to 12 yards by himself and Vick in the Box LMFAO
