Why should we have to overpay for a platoon / backup catcher?

Because Rabelo just flat out STINKS and should never wear an MLB uniform ever again in his life, except to be a batboy.

That doesn't mean we have to overpay for a catcher.

Worst case scenario...just sign a Henry Blanco type.

Patience. The closer to Feb we get, the more the prices will drop on available catchers. That's pretty much a given. Pudge is looking more and more likely. But if not....

The exaggeration level on Rabelo is getting pretty high. But that's the usual. I would like to see what a healthy Rabelo can do. His bat may not be what some want, but I doubt those numbers from last year are the norm either. Very doubtful the FO is going to overspend for a catcher. They either get the type guy they want for the price they want, or we head ito ST with the guys we have and they battle it out. Message board geniuses be damned. It definetly isn't the perfect scenario, but it probably isn't as bad as we think. Scarey thought, yes. But if the hole is still there we have the time to fill it if it appears we are a legitimate contender. It wouldn't be the end of the world, just not the preferred path.

I have never bashed Jeremy Hermida, in fact if you look at the body of what I've posted since he became a Fish it has been positive. I do think he's a weak link in the roster and believe his presence isn't a requirement to this team's success, but I have never called him "garbage" or "crap" or even anything as mundane as "awful", and certainly not "horrible", or any of the words used all too often here characterizing major league ballplayers.

So far I think he's been a chronic underachiever except for ten weeks or so in 2007, and my nickname for him reflects not my disdain for the player so much as for the starry-eyed groupies and their notion he belongs on a pedestal to be worshiped and revered because he's only 24 and we can't survive without his potential.

In all fairness 2003 has never really bashed Hermida as far as i could tell

They will be options in the catching area, it's just that many will not be very sexy. I wanna make this point clear...many options will make those Treanor basher start missing him. If we get Pudge, we actually need to get on our knees and kiss Beinfest's feet. A Salty/Ramirez trade does not appear in the cards right now

Although I have wanted Salty here since he became eligible for the draft, I'm not so sure that would be the best move right now. Not that I would complain if it did happen.
