Adam Dunn isn't as good as Pujols? Thank's for the news flash Tom Brokaw!

Hey Genius.. I compared to about 15 different sluggers. I guess I should have compared him to Eckstein and Tavares and the like to make you happy!

He was never aptly comparing Dunn to Pujols outside of showing 15 sluggers, in other words, not soley pujols. Outside of that, it was only showing where Pujols ranked in comparision to Dunn considering others brought up Pujols's name.

Maybe he comes up a lot with a guy at first base, while someone like Miggie comes up a lot with guys in scoring position.

The base runner split between bases for Dunn's and Miguel's PAs are practically the same yet 45% more of those base runners score with Miguel at the plate compared to Dunn. Remember this next time you read RBIs are solely team dependent.

Base runner split between 1st, 2nd & 3rd

Miguel - 48% / 34% / 18%

Dunn - 48% / 35% / 17%

I was responding to where the thread went, ie Dunn v. Pujols.

Anderson?

Garret Anderson?

.296/.327/.468 (.795) Garret Anderson?

Yea, Adam Dunn isn't as good as him at all.

As for the rest, that's a nice list of 13 hall of fame quality bats and Ortiz who got a late start. I think you are seriously misconstruing what people's arguments for Dunn is. Those guys are better, sure. That doesn't mean Dunn is far behind them or not a hall of fame quality bat (if he hits 40 for 5 more years, which is ages 29-33, and then drops another 150 ages 34-40, he is well over 600 HR). It's only natural he has less RBIs, as those sac flys he is not hitting, and random balls hit into play that turn into 10 bloop singles a year, are not padding his RBI stats. So what he isn't driving in runs at prolific rates. He is still producing mountains of offense which is the point. .382 career OBP, .519 slugging over 4600 PA. WOW.

You are also making a strong argument why he should bat second in the order. Dunn is going to get his no matter where they bat him. The lack of contact is going to create the same number of "rbi"/driving in run numbers wherever he is because it's not consistency - it's all or nothing and all of us realize that. At the same time, that OBP IS consistent and amazingly valuable, and so is his pitches seen per AB to help speedier guys run in front of him, and overall aggravate pitchers. Dunn should be scoring 120-130 runs a year, and knocking in 90-100, but no one in baseball seems to understand how to use him so they idealistically bat him 4-5 expecting him to drive in runners, when he is not that type of batter despite the power potential.

Probably should have left Anderson off the list but I was going down the leading active RBI leaders and he's about 10th. With that said, overall Dunn is a better hitter than Anderson but Anderson is better at driving in runners on and I want my power hitters not to s*ck at driving in runners on and Dunn s*cks at it. That is all.

Who cares about driving in runners. It's about PRODUCTION. I want every hitter in my lineup to be as awesome as possible, and let's say Garret gets 112 RBI compared to Dunn's 100 in the same situation because of contact. Cool. Dunn is going to score a lot more runs. Dunn has four seasons of 99+ runs scored (peak 107). Garret's career high, in typically more PA per year (Garret's peak came in an around 700 PA year, Dunn's routinely come in at 650-675), is 93, and he only broke 90 one other time. See where that OBP comes in now. And this creates a tidal wave of hitters farther down the lineup getting more statistics now too, which is not easily decipherable looking at Dunn's career stats. A lineup is interconnected, that's why Dunn is important. He has an aura of awesome around him that helps everybody. He even will steal bases, and is fast for a big man. He is just, awesome awesome awesome, and some AL team is going to love him as their DH in a few years.

Basically, Dunn doesn't have to knock in runs or have a batting average to be more awesome than most other players. Also, Dunn has as many 100+ RBI seasons as Anderson has, in his career (four). Dunn is in his prime and will easily surpass, if not double this. Garret just had that one retarded year where he drove in 117 with a .307 OBP. lol. That's really funny and such an awesome example of why RBIs are stupid.

The real difference between Anderson and Dunn is 35% and not the 12% in your example.

Production (OBP & SLG) is obviously the most important thing. Please point out where I argued otherwise? But just because OBP & SLG are important it doesn't mean that driving in runners is not important. If someone doesn't drive the runners in the runs don't score. I would rather have a guy with a .900 OPS that excels at driving runners in over another .900 OPS guy that s*cks at driving runners in. You don't care. I don't understand why you don't care but whatever.

Incorrect, because we cannot put Dunn in every RBI situation - and let's face it a better situation because the Angels have been a much better team for much longer - than Garret. Sticking Dunn in for Anderson where he has more guys on base in front of him will produce drastically different results. There isn't a large RBI difference here. This is situational baseball. Dunn's enormous OBP and SLUG advantages would make up the difference here very fast.

Secondly, your second assertion is 100% wrong and you are assuming things. I have no problem with you saying Dunn is the "worst .900 opsing hitter" (lol). I'd take those other 13 guys over Dunn for various reasons, but it's not like they are killing Dunn here. The difference is relatively negligible, even if 'putting the ball in play' a few more times is going to create a little bit of offense. But your situational argument is really poor. Dunn creates ungodly amounts of offense and deserves basically none of the criticism he gets. He is completely under-appreciated in baseball, and people aren't going to get his brilliance until he's 35, he has 550 HR, and still is mashing with retarded BB numbers.

Can't argue with that. I still think you're wrong in general about Dunn, but you got this.

I don't really think there's really anything wrong with what he's saying. When it comes to a run producer (spots 4-5 where Dunn normally is), would you rather have a .300/.400/.500 line or a .250/.400/.500 line? That's simply his point.

But like Lou said, it's about overall production. Dunn is, like, the best #2 hitter in the game. And only one dude actually did stuff right (I don't remember who, but I remember the manager in Cinci a couple years back had Dunn #2 and Phillips like #5) and got bashed to hell for it in the media (OMGSPEED).

They're both right (Dunn is an offensive beast, and he's not good at driving in guys that are on base). Polo's just presenting it in such a manner that breeds the assumption he's saying Dunn sucks.

It seems crazy when you look at him, but he does belong in the #2 spot. Of course it only seems crazy because of what we are told each hole in the lineup is supposed to produce, when in reality, the answer is simply "the most total runs for the team".

By the way, as a 21 year old in 66 games and 286 PA, he hit 18 2B, 19 HR, 54 R, and a .262/.371/.578 (.948). That's godlike.
