Some Advice for this Summer.

Featured Replies

So I'm going to Los Angeles again this summer yet again for my third Residency in the Masters program at Antioch University. One of the annoying parts about the low residency format (I'm there for two weeks every six months) is paying for lodging. I have two real choices about where to stay, the Extended Stay America and the Courtyard Marriott. I'll list some pros and cons of each and maybe you guys can help me decide!

Extended Stay America:

+Familiar (I've stayed there twice already)

+Cheaper

+Kitchenette including Refrigerator

+Closer to dining establishments

-Further from the campus

-Not really a hotel, they only clean the room/replace towels once in the ten days

-Not the prettiest or most comfortable rooms I've stayed in

-$5 one time charge to use the internet, and it is very very slow.

Courtyard Marriott:

+Much nicer hotel, daily maid service

+Closer to the campus

+Got a good deal, still costs more than the ESA, but I'd be paying $50/day less than posted rates

-No kitchen on refrigerator

-Further from eating establishments

-As mentioned before, a bit more expensive, and I'm not familiar with the hotel itself.

So...halp!

What do you guys think?

Thanks!

The main question I would ask is how the kitchen/fridge situation would impact you. Because if you're going there for school, I'd place a greater emphasis on comfort and proximity to the campus, but the food could be an issue financially and as far as convenience.

How far is the ESA from campus? If it is about 10-15 minutes then I will go with ESA. Not having a refrigeratior/kitchenette will get pretty expensive because you will have to go out to eat every day.

You can request a refrigerator in your room. I've done this before (because of medical reasons) and not one hotel has given me a problem.

Ask & see what they say. At least you can keep some beverages cold. It will be waaaaay less expensive if you can get the frige in the deal.
