April 23, 200917 yr Don't be like this and group all fans of one team together, guys. We all despise it when everyone lumps together Marlins fans as crappy fans who don't go to games, are bandwagon fans, etc. And we hate it. As a youngster, I choose to root for all the teams my father did. He lived in New York from age 10 (1967) until 1990. He was a Mets, Jets, Rangers, and Knicks fan. I was born in 1997 an we moved to Florida in 1990. The Marlins were brand new in 1993. The heat were only a few years old, and the Panthers debuted a couple of years after we arrived. We had nothing against those teams and had absolutely no problem switching allegiances. My father had disliked the Dolphins for upwards of 20 years already, though. That switch was too difficult to make, and I simply followed suit. We don't call up radio stations and make idiotic remarks about either team. When the Jets have the upper hand on the Dolphins, we are proud and satisfied. When the Dolphins have the upper hand, we grin and bear it. When Chad left, it hurt, but we found ourselves rooting for Chad, and we were bound to have somewhat mixed feelings no matter the result of the Dolphins' amazing turnaround and stunning playoff run last year. I hear plenty of obnoxious New York fans on the radio, sure. I also hear obnoxious fans from all cities. And the blind homerism is just about as silly as the blind hatred and ripping of the teams an individual does not root for. And the same goes for your blind hatred of all Jets/Mets/Yankees fans, etc. Believe me, I hate Mets fans like poison when I'm at DS rooting on our Marlins. But let's stay reasonable here, and not just write off people based on a sports rooting affiliation, of all things.

Nobody goes on a huge diatribe everytime we talk about hating the Mets or Phillies (or their fans) on this forum. Its a South Florida team, naturally we're going to have more Dolphins fans on here, and I think its ok for us to jokingly make fun of transplant New Yorkers. A lot of them talk enough **** for their own good anyways. Btw I take it that was an error, being born in 1997? Or you're really only 12 years old??

A lot of them talk enough **** for their own good anyways. Btw I take it that was an error, being born in 1997? Or you're really only 12 years old?? Yes, it was an error I was born in 1987. I'm 22 years old. I don't think I took it personally. Believe me, I'm plenty used to the general hatred of Jets fans down here, and I actually enjoy the back and forth for the most part. I didn't really take it personally. I mostly related that story so as to explain how there is a reasonable way how a Marlins/Heat/Panthers fan can also be a Jets fan, since people are almost always incredulous when they hear such a combination. If you are saying that I went on a huge diatribe, though, you either completely misread it or have no idea what diatribe means. –noun a bitter, sharply abusive denunciation, attack, or criticism: repeated diatribes against the senator. So, yeah. None of that here. If anything, these quotes were a heck of a lot closer to a diatribe than anything I said (see bolded). In fact, I don't even mind the GTFO much, although I might say it differently. But I yell at Mets fans to go back to NY, so I'd be hypocritical to denounce that too severely. That said, I have no idea how you could characterize my post as a "huge diatribe", but somehow the others were just "jokingly make[ing] fun of transplant New Yorkers". Like I said, I like the back and forth. But I'd much rather rip the teams and the players than a fanbase. The NFL draft is the most overrated, drawn-out exaggerated event in all of sports. That said, I'm a huge Dolphins fan, **** THE JETS, far as I'm concerned the Jets are worse than the Phillies, Mets and Braves combined, and Jets fans are the scum of the earth, especially the ones that live in South FL. Sorry if I offended anyone All these NY transplants living in FL either need to renounce their Yankees/Mets/Jets/whatever affiliations, or GTFO.
April 24, 200917 yr I don't know how anyone can say Jet fans are worse than Met fans. They are generally the same fans.
April 24, 200917 yr I don't see the big whoop. Most football fans I know here in Miami root for the Jets/Pats/Cowboys/Steelers/Eagles, etc. In fact, I know many Jets fans who were born and raised in FL but root for the Jets. For those annoyed by it, build a bride and get over it. :thumbup

I only know a couple Jet fans and they all have a connection to NY. That said, people do need to get over it. When I was a kid I lived in Houston going to Astros games and a big part of my is still an Astros fan. But since my fandom came from my family in Houston and not my immediate family, I moved away from that influence. This about it this way. Say your father was a Yankee fan, when you grow up with him, watching Yankee games, wouldn't you become a Yankee fan as well?

Well, that was actually my way of defending you and yours. It was a hypothetical, I just used the Yankees because it's a team that has a lot of fans down here.
April 24, 200917 yr Yeah, what's the deal with SOME New Yorkers wanting to move down to Florida so bad, but when they get there some of them act all high and mighty "I'm from NY!!" and they still cheer for a city's sports team they wanted to leave. Being from N.O. where tradition is very important, and a city that what centuries-old private high school you went to is a big deal, I just can't comprehend people not saying "I moved to Florida. I'm going to cheer for the Florida sports teams." If I move to Miami I won't have that problem. I agree with one of the above posters who said to convert or GTFO. haha.

I don't agree with that at all. I have other reasons why I think some should leave, but their sports team(s) affiliation is not on the list. Convert to my team or get out? What's next? Eat what I like or get out? Drive the same kind of car I drive or get out? Some of us put in the time to ensure we all have our inalienable rights. And now some of you think you have the right to tell anybody they now don't have those rights? Bah. Grow up.
April 24, 200917 yr If you have ties to NY I completely understand why you would root for the Jets or any other NY sports team, I mean having grown up in Miami, I will always be a fan of the Marlins, Dolphins and Heat, no matter where I end up living in the future. The ones I don't understand are those who have absolutely no ties to other cities yet they root for that city's teams, I just can't comprehend it, I haven't met many like that though.
April 24, 200917 yr ^^^ Exactly my point as well. Betraying your home-soil in a sense. Don't hate anyone for it though.
