Andrew Miller can now relate to what Cody Ross went through after the 2007 season.

 

As treatment for his right oblique strain, Miller has received a Platelet-Rich Plasma injection. The procedure basically took Miller's own blood, and then purified it and re-injected it into the impaired area, below his right rib cage.

 

Ross had a similar injection after the 2007 season, where the blood was used to help heal a left hamstring problem.

 

Miller went on the disabled list on April 20, and he is confident he will be ready to return to the rotation when his 15-days are up. His rotation spot would fall on May 6 at home against Atlanta.

 

Miller said he may begin throwing off flat ground on Saturday.

 

I think it's safe to say this wasn't a made up thing like Dim invented.

I remember the article last year about Cody. He had it done, with the teams permission, in Vail I believe. It did cure his hammy problems. We watched him close in ST to see if there were any problems and once when he slid into 2B he got up limping. Thought the experimental stuff didn't work, but it was an ankle, or something else. Not the hammy. And for a guy that seemed to always have hammy problems, it was a big breakthrough.

 

So you non-believers go ahead and scoff. I say nothing ventured, nothing gained. He will be out 15 days resting it anyway. May as well give this a shot (no pun intended).

I hear this treatment is popular with football players.

I never did such a thing, though I definitely remember arguing before/during the 2006 season that Josh Johnson had ace potential and much of the local cognoscenti saying he would amount to nothing more than a middle tier pitcher. But that is neither here nor there.

 

Before this season, I said that I thought Olsen should be kept on as an innings eater in that 5th spot while Miller got his bearings down in the minors and I still wish it was done. He clearly wasn't ready to start in the bigs last season and he isn't ready (yet) this season. No matter what Wiley can do, it is hard for a pitcher to develop if every start is a struggle to make it through 5 innings.

 

Hopefully everything comes together and he pitches like the pitcher he was promised to be. But with the way his development has been so screwed up, that'll be a challenge.

And I think it is going to be sooner rather than later. He was just looking more comfortable with the new delivery. With all his pitches. Then the injury. I'm not saying staff ace, but that has more to do with how much I like JJ, and how much I dislike that designation.

And you could be right in an offbeat way. Seems the ones that do this kind of thing the most are the ones that have all kinds of time to be posting. And definetly not the kind of people that would start anything by saying, "Well I was wrong about....."

I did the platelet-rich plasma injection for my knee and that stuff is serious sh*t. It worked real well. I have had no problems with my knee ever. If you look it up it's really interesting. It has a lot to do with the blood flow (and what's in the blood) to the area in question.
