In addition to his 2 costly errors he walked 4 batters and he looked helpless out there. -Hayden was a suprise today. Hopefully he showed Fredi and the front O that he can handle the #5 spot in the rotation. What do we have to lose? It's not like we were winning when Konka and Graham were pitching. -Hermida great... one hit but he also got robbed in the 2nd. -What can I say... CODY CODY CODY! Maybe this is a start . Hopefully we can come out strong and win the series starting tomorrow.

May 17, 200917 yr Well it looks like Cody is coming around. Dan also had a double. Like I said in the game thread, in 03 on may 22 we were 19-29. We can def turn this around espcially if ricky starts pitching like he can and dan and cody get going.
May 17, 200917 yr We need to shore up the 5th spot. If we can do that and Miller can steadily improve and Ricky can return to form, we will battle for the the top spot in the East, but should shoot for the wildcard. We took some big steps with the great start to the season and have steadily been backpedaling since then. Time to take babysteps forward.

May 17, 200917 yr Author After a rough start on Sunday afternoon, left-hander John Koronka was designated for assignment following Florida's 12-5 loss to the Dodgers at Land Shark Stadium. Making his second start since being brought up from Triple-A New Orleans, Koronka worked 2 2/3 innings, and he gave up six runs (four earned) on four hits with four walks and two strikeouts. The lefty hurt himself by making two throwing errors that accounted for two unearned runs he was charged with. The Marlins have yet to announce who will replace the lefty. But manager Fredi Gonzalez noted that it would be a pitcher to help an overworked Florida bullpen. If the Marlins are looking to Triple-A New Orleans, right-hander Brian Sanches, who was in Spring Training with the club, could be a candidate. The Marlins also have yet to announce who will replace Koronka in the rotation. Gonzalez said the team is leaning towards either long relievers Hayden Penn or Burke Badenhop. Both have experience starting. Either of those choices would go on Friday against the Rays in Miami. Penn threw 2 1/3 innings in relief of Koronka on Sunday, and he struck out five. May 17, 200917 yr Throw Penn out there. Hopper has showed time and time again, including today, that he has trouble once batters have gotten a look at him. The man can be ridiculously sick out of the pen, so no reason to mess with that.
May 17, 200917 yr I don't know about throwing Penn out there though. 2003 brought up the fact that Wiley is working extensively with Penn, and he was outstanding today. My only thing is, is that it would be kind of like throwing him into the wolves. One good outing that lasted a couple innings doesn't mean he's ready. Let Wiley work on him more, make sure it's a finished project before we put a block on his shoulders. On the flipside, if Wiley thinks he's ready, then yeah, go for it. I would say keep an eye on Jarrett Santos. He started today for NOLA, has two starts on the year, and the one game he didn't start he was getting stretched out in (went 3 IP). And 3 of his last 4 apperances in Jax were as a starter. Came to public attention after winning the the minor league pitcher of the month award in april after giving up only 3 hits in 20+ innings. career stats: http://www.baseball-...id=santos001jar Don't think he'll do well, just think that's who they go with. The only other pitcher doing well in the minors is Cristhian Martinez (Stats). But I think the fact Santos was called up to AAA says he's on the "fast track" so to speak.

May 18, 200917 yr I'm thankful I gave up on this game when it was 6-0. Today we learned the hard way why Koronka hasn't pitched in the majors in 2 years (or was it 3?).
