July 18, 200916 yr Maybin needs to be called up already. He is hitting the ball very very well. The problem is who do you bench? The guy who always has great ab's and has done a good job leading of, A great defensive outfielder who can absolutely rake and drives in runs or the combination of a slid OBP guy and a stud defensive replacement who has been hitting lefties well. My Guess is Jerms/BC. But this is mainly why they wanted to trade one of the OFers or Uggla, to make room for Maybin.
July 18, 200916 yr That decision isnt even close to being hard. Maybin center, ross rf, and cogs,bc in lf

Unless they trade Hermida by the deadline he's not going anywhere(Not going to be called down or released).
July 18, 200916 yr Why would you choose a Coghlan/BC platoon instead of a Hermida/BC platoon? .277/.374/.418 .255/.350/.353
July 18, 200916 yr Because id rather have better defense and hitting in rf. Maybin in cf and ross in rf along with that platoon is better than what we have right now. It drastically improves the defense. Ross Maybin Cogs/BC 100000000000000000000000000x better than Hermida/Bc Ross Cogs Not all about offense.
July 18, 200916 yr um I'm comparing Coghlan to Hermida yo hermida maybin cody lf cf rf rhp cody maybin carroll lhp is 100000000000000000000000000xbetter than coghlan maybin cody lf cf rf rhp cody maybin carroll lhp

Defensively, mine is so much better its not even close, and maybin can definitely put up hermida type numbers here.
July 18, 200916 yr What, pray tell, does Maybin have to do with Coghlan and Hermida v.s. RHP? I mean, I don't understand how you're still getting mixed up. Not once have I brought up Maybin's name. In both of my posts i make direct comparisions of Coghlan and Hermida. I have not once made a comparison of either player to Maybin. I even have a sentence, that was then quoted and bolded in the next post by another poster, of "I'm comparing Coghlan to Hermida". I'm really not trying to be mean here, but common man.
July 24, 200916 yr So he's hitting .340 with a .912 OPS in 212 AB's and is on a 7 game hit streak. When is ever going to get called up?
July 24, 200916 yr So he's hitting .340 with a .912 OPS in 212 AB's and is on a 7 game hit streak. When is ever going to get called up? Why call him up when we are getting below average (for the position) performance from Coghlan in LF? That aside, I still think his time in AAA needs to be just as much about improving his approach to the plate as his numbers. With his style of hitting, which it needs to be noted does not bring the full extent of his power to the ball nearly as often as he should, he could easily come up and scrape out a bunch of quick singles and manage to bat .300 (sort of like he did in his call-up), or he could be exploited for the weaknesses in his approach (which are still there despite the average) bat .240 with little production besides that, lose confidence, and be back at square one. I don't think the team is willing to take that chance right now. Not with Coghlan providing at least a semblance of offense. I think if Maybin was called up, there is a chance for him to be that guy who manages to ride some fluke base hits and becomes a better player because he gets confident at the plate against major league pitching. That's what happened for Hanley. And he could end up being a real spark plug down the stretch if this were to happen. But I'm not holding my breath because the important thing is Maybin reaching his longterm potential and struggling again in the majors could seriously wreck that chance.
July 24, 200916 yr I'd say Maybin has made a ton of strides in his approach actually. His K% is just 19%, after being 32% last year. And he's still walking, 11.1% this year after 13.1% last year. The question is, with what he's done to increase his K%, will he in turn be able to hit for power? He still has an average ISO on the year (.151)

I just think its important for people to understand that it's not just a batting average that the organization is going to look at, but moreso the way it is obtained. And I do think that the ISO is important in the grand scheme. Maybin can be an effective hitter with or without ISO, but ideally Maybin would really learn to harness that power. It's the difference between him becoming a future average CFer or a future all-star.
