June 24, 200917 yr I think I want to keep him as a closer because that's where he'll do the least damage. You think he would do less damage protecting leads in the 9th compared to pitchign in games we're already behind?
June 24, 200917 yr I saw that coming. That's what she said Well that quite unnecessary. I know, I know. THAT'S WHAT SHE SAID.

You think he would do less damage protecting leads in the 9th compared to pitchign in games we're already behind? I have very little doubt that if he is taken out of the closer's role he will essentially replace calero's role of coming in with a tie or small lead late or when another guy is in trouble. That scares me way more than protecting a 3 run lead in the 9th. He's simply not as bad as he's been in his worst outings and should be able to be an 'effective closer' if he goes back to being what he has been in his career, a 1.4 whip that allows no xbh. If he's gonna be used in the mop up role then yeah, he hurts us less there, but fredi's gonna use him as a relief ace type of guy. That scares me. He's not a fireman.

Well his career numbers have been better as a mid reliever/set up man than as a closer.
June 24, 200917 yr Looks like ole lindy gets at least one more shot! ''It's inexplicable,'' Lindstrom said. ``The third out seems to be eluding me. I really can't put my finger on anything. I've got to do a better job.'' Gonzalez said he'll continue to stick with Lindstrom as his closer, and has said in the past that the role is a learning process for the hard-throwing pitcher.
June 24, 200917 yr meh, a lot of the hits he's given up his past couple outings have been seeing eye ground balls. A few hard hit singles, don't get me wrong. But it's not like he's been crushed.
June 24, 200917 yr The only part that bothers me is the infinite f***ing patience he shows with guys like lindstrom and bonifacio despite what they do. It's as if the performance on the field doesn't matter.

It's as if the performance on the field doesn't matter. They are called Beinfest Players (players where Beinfest has explicitly or implicitly said "he's our guy" despite proven failure on the field). This isn't a new phenomenon: 2006: Reggie Abercrombie 2007: Miguel Olivo, Jorge Julio 2008: Kevin Gregg 2009: Emilio Bonifacio, Matt Lindstrom These are the official members of the Beinfest Player Hall of Fame.

Rosenthal says that the Marlins are interested in acquiring Mark DeRosa from the Indians. He's hitting like .279 with a dozen homers. It would be 20 steps up.
