June 22, 200917 yr I really dont trust the guy. He has absolutely no command of his breaking ball and when good hitters know his fastball is coming (which is almost always) they crush him. I think they are waiting to long to replace him with Nunez. It is apparent to everyone that Nunez is the better pitcher so why no just make the move now before disaster strikes again.
June 22, 200917 yr We've being fortunate that a few of his blow-ups were in three-run save opportunities so he could screw-up and still not blow the game.

Because Lindstrom has only blown 2 saves in 15 Save opportunities and Nunez has blown 3 in the 5 opportunities. Lindy hasn't been as bad as some of you say as he gets the job done.
June 22, 200917 yr If we haven't replaced Bonifacio in the lineup and just recently took him out of the #1 hole, Lindstrom is going to have to do a lot more damage before we replace him as closer I would guess.
June 22, 200917 yr Im just have ALOT more confidence in Nunez then Lindstrom If you look at the stats in save situations you shouldn't be. Lindstrom's 14/16 saves (87.5%) compared to Leo's 2/5 saves (40%). Leo's doing fine in the Set up role so why would you move him and Matt is getting the job done so why would you move him. It would be a completely different story if Lindstrom had blown 5 or 6 saves though.
June 22, 200917 yr The guy has like a 49 WHIP. He's not "getting the job done." 1.80. No, I'm pretty sure it's in the 40's. Also, good point in your favor, ignoring the fact that I was being obviously facetious. He's been bad.

I didn't but just showing him he's over exaggerating, i don't even think a WHIP of 49 is possible. But yes a whip of 1.80 is not something to be proud of but at least he's saving the games, right.

You'd have to allow something like at least 14 runs in 1/3rd an inning for there to be so many baserunners. No manager has that long a leash, not even Fredi when Pinto is pitching.
June 22, 200917 yr Yeah i looked it up, the highest whip in a season in at least 40 appearances is 2.106.

June 23, 200917 yr Nunez? Seriously? He's been just as bad lately. He's had a much better year. So? We're talking about our closer, and people automatically mention Nunez. He's probably one of the worst choices right now.

June 23, 200917 yr I don't really know what to do with Lindstrom & the closer role right now. I guess nothing. I still want our best pen guys (Leo, Meyer, Kiko, even Pinto at times) available for earlier innings when things can get really hairy. May as well keep Lindstrom for the 9th where at least he's not coming in with men on base... Just keep throwing him out there, hopefully over time he keeps improving. I was about to lose it if he blew that Yanks game though...

Ever heard of Jorge Julio?
June 23, 200917 yr Ever heard of Jorge Julio? Yes i have and he has a career WHIP of 1.435 and his WHIP as a Marlin was 3.107.

He's probably one of the worst choices right now. 3.58 ERA, 1.19 WHIP, 29 K's in 32.2 innings. .202 opponents batting average; .621 .OPS against. I see what you're saying now...
June 23, 200917 yr What options do we have? Keep Leo in set-up role and trade for a trustworthy closer before trade deadline? Demote Lindstrom in the pen, keep Nunez at set-up role and do a committee of Calero/Meyer?
