Marlins Community Sales Force

Featured Replies

A press release I got recently:

The Marlins Community Sales Force (MCSF) program provides an opportunity for individuals (18+ years old) who are currently out of work or looking for a new source of income, to earn money by assisting with the selling of Marlins ticket plans.

General Overview of MCSF:

- Registration is now open and closes July 19

- Program will commence on July 20, 2009 (orientation sessions for accepted applicants) and close

on February 15, 2010

- Participants will be partnered with a specialized Marlins Sales Executive

- Commissions and bonuses will be paid on new season and group ticket sales

- Commission rates range from 5% - 10% plus bonuses

- Marlins will consider hiring top performers as full-time Sales Executives

Those interested in joining the Marlins Community Sales Force can register on-line at marlins.com, in-person at the Marlins Executive Offices or Marlins en Miami store and during home games at Marlins Ticket Sales Kiosks. All applicants must complete and sign a Program Registration Form and return it to the Marlins by e-mail, fax, mail or in-person. Full program details and Registration Forms are available at http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/fla/ticketing/sales_force.jsp.

This is beyond stupid. One of the dumbest, most ignorant marketing ideas, EVER.

Has to be some sort of sop to one or more of the city or county pooh-bahs who control their stadium destiny. Let it never be said that the Marlins FO won't genuflect before their political masters when they want a big pile of taxpayer dollars from them.

Marketing ideas?? Are you kidding me??

Marketing ideas?? Are you kidding me??

Well, yes, actually. I should have put "marketing ideas" in quotes.

It's almost as dumb as the "pay your mortgage" brain-fart.

What's wrong with pay your mortgage?

You wouldnt be saying that if you won 15,000....

Wow, people on this board will complain over anything... even free money.

If it brings people out to the stadium, it's a success.

Exactly. What is there to complain about? If you think it is a dumb idea, don't do it, but it sounds like a good opportunity for someone who is looking to get into sports as a career at a time when nobody is hiring. Plus, if it helps bring a few extra people out to the stadium, it's a win-win.

How is this a stupid idea exactly? I think it's a great opportunity for a lot of people. Nothing to complain about at all.

seems like a perfectly fine distribution idea

cheaply diversify and expand your sales force, integrate into the community, sell more tickets

it actually seems like a pretty savvy thing to do as long as they structure it correctly

i don't know much about the pay your mortgage thing, but from what I gather on the radio it seems like a pretty decent promotion

Can't see why this is an issue, even if it is to "satisfy" a political purpose. No one is being bribed and if someone sells tickets they get compensated. Hey, anyone of us who convinces someone to buy a season ticket should get a commission.

I don't see how it brings more people out to the stadium. The new pond is doing that. My sales rep said that season ticket packages spiked when that was announced and they expect another spike when ground is officially broken. Winning records do that. Doing anything that makes the South Florida fan base think the stadium is the place to be seen does that. Hiring more sales reps won't accomplish any more than taking sales away from others that have been there. Is anybody going to buy a package, or even a ticket, just because the Marlins are opening up their doors for more employment? Maybe a mommy and daddy here and there, but other than that....

I see it as a combination of a couple things. Reaching out to the community to give people that may want some sort of career in sports an opportunity for a job, when jobs are few and far between in any field. Secondly, it is a good training program for an orginazation that has a hard time holding onto sales reps because of the lousy numbers we have for sales. It's a win/win for both sides. The only downside would be to the current sales reps that have worked their butts off trying to convince people to come to games at anything resembling consistency, or in simpler terms, buying some sort of package.

Complaining that it is a marketing tool of any kind is rediculous and someone is really stretching their obvious hatred of anything FO related to say that. But I will say it is reassuring to some extent that others didn't fall for this apparent attempt to discredit.

I have no problem at all with the FO, other than our favorite short-guy.

This "program" is an absolute joke. It will sell an insignificant number of tickets and will be forgotten about in short order, never to be mentioned again. I just heard some guy from the FO babbling about it on the pre-game show, and he let slip the real reason it even exists: federal "stimulus" dollars. "Free" money, which will go down the same rat-hole as all the rest of the ridiculous "stimulus" dollars.

I would bet any amount of money that the entire idea came from some city or county commissioner-type along with a little patter about how "we can allocate some federal money" for it. Classic government stupidity.
