November 10, 200322 yr that would piss me off if the Giants signed Mondesi. Vlad heading for San Fran is even stupider than him going to Florida. Hey, I can dream can't I? And the Giants are more likely than the Marlins
November 10, 200322 yr Is Smoltz not going to be the Braves closer next year??? B/c otherwise, I don't understand Foulke going to Atlanta. That and the Beane has made it his mission to sign Foulke back with the A's. The list seems like someone took 5 minutes and a random team generator to figure the thing out. I heard that Smoltz wants to start again
November 10, 200322 yr And the Giants are more likely than the Marlins Giants are cutting payroll IIRC though.
November 10, 200322 yr lmao Vlad a Fish..... man i see the O's getting Juan Gone, Vlad, and a good pitcher they have the $$$$$$ and the O fans have sufferd long enough
November 10, 200322 yr And the Giants are more likely than the Marlins Giants are cutting payroll IIRC though. ya i heard that too!!!!! they have a lot free agents and are talking about going young...... who knows what the ginats are gonna do
November 10, 200322 yr Vlad will=marlin,Castillo will=red sox,and wildcard, don't talk to me,please,i don't want to hear you crying again, saying vlad wont be a marlin,YES HE WILL AND WHEN HE DOES I THINK I SHALL LAUGH IN YOUR FACE!
November 10, 200322 yr Uh, tell me why WC? Vlad Guerrero will be a huge target, so will Sheff and what about Manny Ramirez? Uhh, those guys have proven themselves time and time again year in and year out. Jose Guillen has done it once. In fact, before that one year, he never had 15 HR's in a single season. GM's have their reasons to be skeptical. Sanders is a risk because he's old. Usually whatever team takes a $1-2 Mill risk on Reggie has it pay off, so I don't see what the risk is with him at this point except for age. I agree with Wild Card for the most part. Paying Jose Guillen more than 3 million in today's market is stupid. Although I don't know if I'd be surprised to see some team pick him up for more based solely on his outstanding numbers in one season...which, by the way, dropped majorly when he was traded to the A's. I don't know if it was the park or changing leagues, but he didn't seem to get it together until the playoffs...and that was only a string of five games.
November 10, 200322 yr And the Giants are more likely than the Marlins No. Giants are cutting payroll, supposedly. At least there's a (I'll guesstimate) 10% chance he heads to Florida. I mean, Beinfest could make it work if he truely wanted to.

I'm interested to know what you think the Marlin's contract offer for Vlad would be.
November 10, 200322 yr And the Giants are more likely than the Marlins Giants are cutting payroll IIRC though. only by about 5 million though. And with all the salaries clearing up (Benard, Snow, Hernandez), there will be room to sign Guerrero and cut payroll, although it's not going to happen, the Giants are more likely to sign him than most team. I personally think he's going to resign with the Expos.
November 10, 200322 yr No reason to fight...... odom think all you are =ly morons such as myself..... we R jsut here to Xpress opnions not get into Verbal fighting about moves that might and might not even happen

I personally think he's going to resign with the Expos. The Marlins can clear the contract of just about anyone they want to. And they can raise the payroll about $10 Million. I think signing Vlad is more of an option for Florida than it would be for San Fran (despite the fact that I don't think it's really an option for either team, anyways).

I'm interested to know what you think the Marlin's contract offer for Vlad would be. That's beinfest's job. I had no idea. But really. Do you have a guess or anything? I'm just trying to figure out why you feel it's possible.

I'm interested to know what you think the Marlin's contract offer for Vlad would be. That's beinfest's job. You have such strong convictions that we will sign him, yet you don't know how we'll do it? Isn't that called an oxymoron?

I think that the main reason why it's not a good idea for the Marlins is that Vlad's going to want at least 5 years and I just don't think tying in a lot of money to one player when you have a consistently low payroll is smart. The Marlins need to make sure that they are flexible from year to year.
November 10, 200322 yr Well since he's worth 15mill a year, lets say he takes 14 mill for being with the team he wants to be with(marlins),i really think a 3year 36 mill contract, which will mean 6 mill less but atleast he will have a nice 3 year contract and be in his home and, i know for vlad 12mill a year might not be much but i think he'll do it just for the reason that we are the marlins and we play in miami, here are some other reasons. 1.This is miami. 2.We just won the championship. 3.We got real grass. 4.He is comftorable with our management(because he knows them from montreal). 5.Hispanic culture. 6.Beautiful weather. 7.Chance to be a contender.

I don't see him taking three years. A team wants to give a 3 year contract b/c of how expensive insurance is and b/c it gives them flexibility. A player will want more...and a player of Vlad's calibur deserves more years.

The Marlins need to make sure that they are flexible from year to year. That's what Beinfest said that his philosophy was before the 2003 season. I'm pretty sure 96% of this board disagreed with that theory. I'm pretty sure he's converted 95% of those people (although I still think they need to hand out SOME semi-long-term deals) I converted. I think the only people that haven't are Willis#1, Juanky, with Ramp getting a neutral vote.
November 10, 200322 yr i really think a 3year 36 mill contract From what I've been hearing, Ivan Rodriguez wouldn't except that deal to stay in Florida, none the less Vlad Guerreo to come here.
November 10, 200322 yr somebody go to the O's board and tell those guys we are getting Vlad not them....
