Signing people takes money.... And the Fish ain't got none.

But then again... Aside from Bobby V. claiming that Almanza is the 2nd best lefty in baseball (D'oh) when has anyone on ESPN's baseball crew ever been right about anything??

are the BoSox not keeping Todd Walker? Cheaper & better offense than Castillo. Since when did Epstein go for speed & defense anyway??

Why would anyone think Todd Walker is better offense?

In Florida he would MAYBE have a year total of 8HR and much lower everything else if he batted 2nd.

Luis is better offensively now, even with the disparity of park effect figues between Fenway and PPS.

i just got done reading that s*** like 10 minz ago and i must say god..... notice how the dudgers, yanks, deadsox, and muts get everybody!!!!!

espn is so f***ing biaest.. as if the marlins aren't gonna spend any money on any these guys!!!!!

f*** what ESPN thinks last year they said that Pudge would be an O for sure... no body predicted us getting Uggey...

its one thing to predict but adleast predict with a bit common sense.....

Pudge-Cubs

No.

Urbina-Cubs

Wouldn't be surprised.

Vina-ChiSox

I hope not.

How come we aren't predicted to get, or keep for this matter, anybody on that list?

BTW: They think Todd Walker is going to San Diego. They signed Loretta to a 2-year extension. :lol Thus meaning that he may end up in Boston, and since they predicted Castillo to be in A Sox uni, he'll end up BACK in Florida.

This is just BS. Pudge is not going to the Cubs - the Cubs have no interest in signing him and already have Bako and Miller in place. I dont think they are going anywhere. Besides, the bullpen is where the Cubs need to focus. But if we dont re-sign Pudge, oh well. Besides, last I checked, Cubs were not interested in blowing up their payroll. With Lopez on the market, why go for Pudge? (Personally, I would rather Pudge, but Lopez has the sexy stats).

Also, I think if Juan Gonzalez lands in the right situation (DHing in a good lineup, Red Sox?) he could be this year's Pudge.

Personally, I want to see us get Jose Guillen. I think he could be had from anywhere between $3-4MM. He has more power than Enc, about the same age too. And he can play D. Also, we could trade Enc. And a lot cheaper than Vlad.

I dont know why the Yanks, Braves, Dodgers and the damn Cubs are the only teams out there that can sign FA's. You think that no one else has a chance. I think this offseason is going to be full of suprises, I think guys who previously were unavailable are going to be moved in order to get rid of bloated contracts.

Personally, I want to see us get Jose Guillen.

Guillen, Sanders, or Ibanez would be fine with me.

And Guillen won't be near $3-4 mill. He'll hang around $1-3.

And Guillen won't be near $3-4 mill. He'll hang around $1-3. You're crazy if you think he gets anything less than $3MM. Sorry, but a guy who hits 31 homeruns, has a .928 and is only 27 is not only going to see his pay doubled. Oh, and he is a hell of a defensive player too. If we got him at $3-4MM, that would be a damn good deal. I say we go out and sign him right now for 3 years @$10MM. Then trade Enc.

I cant see Ibaniez going anywhere Xcepct the Royals..... reason being, he is suppose to be the replacement when Beltrain leaves or gets traded.....

Ibaniez deserves more than 3-4 mil a year.. he is an all star caliber player.

If Admin Beinfest signed Jose Guillen to a 3-year $10 Million deal, he would be pointed and laughed at by every GM in the league. Neither he nor Reggie Sanders will get any more the $3 Million in 2004, despite their statistics. They're both just too big a risk, especially in a money concious (sp) league.

that would piss me off if the Giants signed Mondesi.

Vlad heading for San Fran is even stupider than him going to Florida.

Vlad Guerrero will be a huge target, so will Sheff and what about Manny Ramirez? But at $3-4MM Guillen is a huge bargain in this league for a guy who did what he has done last season! If we can sign him for cheaper than that, I would be thrilled. But either way, our FO should have him as a primary target.

And, wasnt every GM and media member pointing and laughing last year when we signed Pudge?

Is Smoltz not going to be the Braves closer next year??? B/c otherwise, I don't understand Foulke going to Atlanta. That and the Beane has made it his mission to sign Foulke back with the A's. The list seems like someone took 5 minutes and a random team generator to figure the thing out.

Uh, tell me why WC? Vlad Guerrero will be a huge target, so will Sheff and what about Manny Ramirez?

Uhh, those guys have proven themselves time and time again year in and year out. Jose Guillen has done it once. In fact, before that one year, he never had 15 HR's in a single season. GM's have their reasons to be skeptical.

Sanders is a risk because he's old. Usually whatever team takes a $1-2 Mill risk on Reggie has it pay off, so I don't see what the risk is with him at this point except for age.

good f***ing point Jonny......

ya meadia was bashing us for giving pudge a 10 mil contract for a year.....

i rember that night clearly nobody Xpected it... i came home from my GF's house mad cuz he dindt get any, i came home about 10.50 and the TV was on chanel 7 FOX, so i sit on the sofa as i take my shoes off and hear Dudes rogers say the marlins haveing signed Pudge i went f***ing crazy as happy as i was i heard local media bashing us and saying it was a bad move with 10 mil they could have got so much more ..... saying its not like there gonna do anything

They way i looked at it was at the time.....

okay my team is good, they have what it takes to go to the playoffs and win the division....

AJ

Redman

Pavz

and teh local media was bashing us i didnt get it!!!!!!!

Guillen averages out to 18HR a season if he plays a full season. He has bounced around too much in the past. I dont see why he doesnt get AT LEAST $3MM when Encarnacion is getting 3.5 right now - and has never came close to the year Guillen had.

And those guys I listed are of course proven - that is why they all will command over $10MM a piece. Guillen would still be had at about 1/3-1/4 the price. And that could be arranged for 2-3 years. If you are a GM, you would be a fool not to take a chance on Guillen. 3-4MM is not that much money in this league, believe it or not.

Plus, he would be an upgrade over Enc in the power dept. Who knows how he performs in the clutch - cant be any worse than Enc. And you would be free to trade Enc for prospects or whatever you want. Just a thought, and the money is negligible at this point. And you still have given me no proof that 3-4 MM would be too much for Guillen.
