November 11, 200322 yr Wow you guys are seriously understimating Castillo. Pokey Reese will be nowhere near Castillo with the Glove and Speed throughout the rest of his carreer. Pokey is as good a 2B defender as there is in the big leagues... that being said, he sucks too much with the bat to even be considered
November 11, 200322 yr Wow you guys are seriously understimating Castillo. Pokey Reese will be nowhere near Castillo with the Glove and Speed throughout the rest of his carreer. LMAO. Reese over Castillo?? Castillo shouldve had a GG last year and many years before that. Im happy that he finally won a very well deserved GG. Sorry but in my opinion Castillo is the best overall 2nd baseman in the MLB, and I thank Beinfest for having him as a top priority. Thank God some of you arent GMs. Im all for respecting people's opinion, But Pokey Reese..sorry i cant respect that. LMAO Pokey Reese!! Wow. The debate is not over who is the better player, but whether Reese will fill in competently at a hugely reduced price. I wonder if half of you people even read the previous postings. We can Get better that Reese and cheaper (Ex: Hooper) If IT HAS TO come down to get a replacement 2nd baseman, give me Hooper, All other MLB 2nd basemen do not seem adequate for what we need to replace.
November 11, 200322 yr Author OK, this Hooper guy is supposed to be the next good second baseman according to some, but according to others he is horrific. Which is it?
November 11, 200322 yr If IT HAS TO come down to get a replacement 2nd baseman, give me Hooper, All other MLB 2nd basemen do not seem adequate for what we need to replace. Mark Grudzielanek would be an adequate replacement. I don't know about Hooper 266. AVG 1 HR 25 SB in AAA?
November 11, 200322 yr Author Hooper's numbers aren't too bad for a AAA team that barely made the playoffs, beating the Rockie's SkySox to win their division. A good spring training could land him on the team.
November 11, 200322 yr Hooper turns 28 in December and has no big league experience. There is no way those numbers could improve at the big league level and he isn't going to become a faster baserunner overtime.
November 11, 200322 yr OK, this Hooper guy is supposed to be the next good second baseman according to some i dont think anyone is saying that
November 11, 200322 yr OK, this Hooper guy is supposed to be the next good second baseman according to some, but according to others he is horrific. Which is it? The latter
November 11, 200322 yr Forget Hooper and Reese. If Castillo is not re-signed it looks as if Grudzielanek will come.
November 11, 200322 yr Author So right now most favor Grudzie, but what other options are out there? I don't feel like he will come to our team.
November 11, 200322 yr So right now most favor Grudzie, but what other options are out there? I don't feel like he will come to our team. As far as free agent 2B are concered there is nothing but him.
November 11, 200322 yr Author any of those you prefer ramp? I still like Reese with Hill and Robinson coaching him. The man has two gold gloves in his trophy case.
November 11, 200322 yr Jeff Reboulet? Carlos Baerga? Denny Hocking? Jeff Reboulet turns 40 in April and hit 241. with 3 HR and 25 RBI through 93 games. Carlos Baerga is 35 he hit 343. with 4 HR and 39 RBI through 105 games. Denny Hocking is 33 he hit 239. with 3 HR and 22 RBI through 83 games. Not that good...I doubt Baerga is going to hit 343. next season.
November 11, 200322 yr Pokey is great with the D.... sucks at hitting though... i really dont want him Id prefer(in this order) Castillo Alomar Walker Vina Grudzy EY
November 11, 200322 yr Author oh, ok. but he makes too many errors for my taste. Let's hope we can keep Castillo. Pudge and Lee are bye-bye if it is up to me, but if Catillo wants too much, then Lee stays and he is bye bye. Maybe we can pull a hat trick plus one and keep them all. *takes out rosary
November 12, 200322 yr Heres how my list would go: Castillo- Of course the first obvious choice. Grudzy- IMO the closest to matching castillo's numbers. Walker- Good bat but horrific defense. Alomar- Turns 36 in February and looks like hes best yrs are behind him. Vina- Turn 35 in April and has decline the last 2 yrs with his bat. Young- Has some pop with 15 homers last year. Baerga- Hit .343 but wasnt a full-time player.
November 12, 200322 yr Baerga used to be productive... He was again this year. Maybe he figured something out?

November 12, 200322 yr If we dont re-sign Castillo, we should go with Reese or Eric Young. Everyone else is a waste of time. Vina will want too much money. Grudz had a career year. Baerga? Uh, no. Alomar will demand too much money - might as well re-sign Castillo. Frankly, I dont see what the fear is over Reese. The guy has 2 gold gloves, can steal 30+ times, can lay down a bunt, and can hit around .270. Not a bad guy to have in the bottom of the lineup - or experiment with him or A Gon at #2. Oh, and whoever said they would rather Rey Ordonez converted to 2B, your just plain nutz.
