November 10, 200322 yr Cape, even at a million dollars a year would you take a guy with these numbers?? I look at his stats and I see a guy who has been living off his "name" for the last three years.? No offence to you or your post but I believe we can do better. ESPN's Pokey stats - get out your closepins people, they really stink. Those stats are in five weeks of play this season. Not only that, but Pro Player would have an amazing affect on his offense. The stats I posted were NOT for five weeks of play, I posted his entire career stats, since 1997 and it sure looks to me like he is your prototypical ballplayer in decline. He hasn't had a good year this century - lol.
November 11, 200322 yr pokey reese is the reincarnation of homr bush. no thank u . unless hes for spring trainng invite
November 11, 200322 yr pokey reese is the reincarnation of homr bush. no thank u . unless hes for spring trainng invite I have a warm spot for Homer Bush. He gave my kid his first autograph. He still cherishes it. An under-attended kid's thing at PPS in 2002, and Homer was a real champ with the kids.
November 11, 200322 yr Um, no. HOmer Bush is no where near as good as Pokey. Check out the stats. Pokey could have a very good year with us, and I think would be a solid replacement for Castillo should we not re-sign him. I think the money we would save is appealing enough - because we can then use that money elsewhere. We will see...
November 11, 200322 yr lol the only thing pokey has better is a glove.. both are old both had their caeer yr boht could run a little and both now suck bolas
November 11, 200322 yr good heavens what's wrong with you people? Pokey Reese??? where's the puking icon when i need it.... :thumbdown
November 11, 200322 yr good heavens what's wrong with you people? Pokey Reese??? where's the puking icon when i need it.... :thumbdown I was going to ask Admin to start providing vomit bags online.... :thumbup
November 11, 200322 yr good heavens what's wrong with you people? Pokey Reese??? I was going to say the exact same thing. A career 251. hitter who only played 37 games last season and hit 215.? No thanks...
November 11, 200322 yr If Castillo doesn't re-sign then the best free agent 2B I see is Mark Grudzielanek.
November 11, 200322 yr Yea,but steinbrenner will probably get luis,he wants our whole team.I can't wait till steinbrenner retires,so his sons can take over they will be worse than the tigers(his sons are greedy b!tches),lol,i can't wait.
November 11, 200322 yr If Castillo doesn't re-sign then the best free agent 2B I see is Mark Grudzielanek. I agree. :thumbup

November 11, 200322 yr Author My problem with ark is how will he fit in chemistry wise? Pokey was a Pierre-type in Pittsburgh until he went down with injuries. Mark is quiet in the clubhouse from what I have seen during his time in Montreal, LA, and Chicago.
November 11, 200322 yr I think the Pokey Reese alternative is compelling, and I stand behind Cape here. I think Reese could come in and be just as good defensively as Castillo has been. He could also be more of a speed threat than Castillo, and has a good record for baserunning. The only concern is is he healthy, and will he be able to hit over .270? I think yes and yes. Not only that, but Reese has more pop than Castillo and can bunt the ball. He may not replace Castillo's .300 average, but I think you can expect .270 10HR+ and 30+SB from him. Taking a flyer on him at about 1-2MM would not be so bad if we lost Castillo. In fact, I am more willing to take a flyer on Reese at that price than Castillo at 6-7MM b/c Castillo has hip problems and doesnt look like he has recovered fully. And I dont think Castillo's production is that much more than what we could get at that price.
November 11, 200322 yr Well Jonny, I disagree about having Reese over Castillo for their prices, but if we cannot retain Luis, I'd be all for Pokey.
November 11, 200322 yr I am hearing correctly? Pokey Reese???? :lol Well he would come cheap. Not saying he'll do much, but he would come cheap.
November 11, 200322 yr Author As a GM, i wouldn't pay more than 5.5 million a year for Castillo. I think we could salvae Pokey from the discard pile and for cheap turn him back into the gold glove, base stealin' machine he was. His hitting and health will improve with Marlins coaches and trainers who are the best in the league. Imagine Pokey's talent defensively with Perry Hill? Luis can kiss the gold glove bye bye.
November 11, 200322 yr One major thing is his baserunning and defense don't struggle through hitting woes, which is big. Castillo can have spurts of defensive problems when he is in a long slump. He won a well deserved gold glove, dethroning Reese as the best defensive 2B in the NL. If we sign him to a monor league deal I say throw the dice. Otherwise no dice and go with a kid.
November 11, 200322 yr Wow you guys are seriously understimating Castillo. Pokey Reese will be nowhere near Castillo with the Glove and Speed throughout the rest of his carreer. LMAO. Reese over Castillo?? Castillo shouldve had a GG last year and many years before that. Im happy that he finally won a very well deserved GG. Sorry but in my opinion Castillo is the best overall 2nd baseman in the MLB, and I thank Beinfest for having him as a top priority. Thank God some of you arent GMs. Im all for respecting people's opinion, But Pokey Reese..sorry i cant respect that. LMAO Pokey Reese!!

The debate is not over who is the better player, but whether Reese will fill in competently at a hugely reduced price. I wonder if half of you people even read the previous postings.
