WORD TO BEINFEST!

It doesnt matter if someone claims said players before the Marlins do, they can still win the waiver claim.

That's right:

If more than one team puts in a waiver claim for the player, priority of waiver claims is determined as follows: teams in the same league as the team asking waivers, in order from worst record (as of the claim date) to best, then teams in the other league, in the same order). The highest priority claim stands, others are dismissed.

It's about your order on the list, not when you claim them.

Rightfully, the teams willing to let teams go through the waiver process, in this economy are demanding more compensation (and in some cases like Rios saying to the interested other party, you want him, you take 100% of his contract and don't look to us to pony up anything) or more prospects.

This game is getting much younger much faster. I'm not sure it's good for the players (pitcher's specifically, I would like to see an innings floor on starting pitchers in the minors before they can be brought up) or the sport but I don't think the trend changes any time soon.

I think we need us another bat in RF, RVH's decent and Sean West is not that bad...

So, just saw this on mlbtr and wondered what others thought.

It appears Gary Sheffield might be available. .284/.381/.476/.857.

Anyone?

the guy just can't stay healthy. although he would be a nice platoon partner for hermida in RF.

do we only have 4 backups on the bench?? is carroll going to get recalled??

Word for Beinfest, look at Harangs numbers! He is by far perfect for this team, great groud ball guy with high strikeout rate, keeps the ball down, on a contending team will do wonders, i hope another team claims him to see all you blinded people saying OMFG we should have gotten him when he is pitching lights out for one of our rivals. Doug Davis is ideal, but it is also going to be hard for him to fall to us do to his low contract situation. Everyone jumps on low risk high reward deals. I like Harang, always have and have enough baseball knowledge to see what he can do for us. And if the Reds eat some of his salary it'd be a win-win.

None of that changes the fact that he's making $11 million this year. And the Reds wouldn't pay any of his salary, so stop dreaming.

Walt has clearly stated that the Reds are not looking at salary dumps, they added salary with Rolen newly on their books. And wouldn't be opposed to eating some of either Bronson Arroyo or Aaron Harangs salary in the right deal. What we might have to offer I don't know. If we have to pay the full amount for the remainder of this year and next year than YES I am against it but if it can be done, and our front office makes it happen you'd be opposed to this move? That's all I'm saying. I am not saying Beinfest eat the 11 mill owed, than the 12.5 next year, am saying if we can get the Reds to agree to something we are comfortable with than let's make this happen.

Our Rotation can potentially look like this:

Josh Johnson

Ricky Nolasco

Aaron Harang

Chris Volstad

Sean West

and when Sanchez gets back.....

Josh Johnson

Ricky Nolasco

Aaron Harang

Anibal Sanchez

Chris Volstad

oh yeah I am going to keep dreaming..... :drool True fans dream...

GO MARLINS!

I would give Harang no thought at all. For a while his future was looking bright, not any longer.

The answer hopefully lies in Annibal Sanchez, who should just be a Jacksonville start or two away from the rotation.

I wanted Gary Sheff on this team since the beginning of the season...so he could hit his 500th HR here. we should give him a shot if he isn't alot of money, he step game up if he see he with contenders

Man, the more I think about this the worse the idea sounds.

Really, Punisher, I really haven't seen someone so passionate about an acquisition that makes so little sense for the team.

IF we would somehow get the Reds to pay his whole salary (which would be the only possible way we would be able to get him), then we would have to give up a good amount, which isn't worth it. We made the Nats pay for Nick Johnson's $1.8 million remaining on his contract, and you think we're going to pay even a fraction of Harang's? Plus, there are better options out there who make much less. Why you want Harang, who hasn't even pitched well this year, puzzles me.

Man, the more I think about this the worse the idea sounds.

I really wanted us to trade for Ryan Voglesong a few years ago, I thought he was poised to have a Carl Pavano-type dream season.
