Posted August 11, 200915 yr ON THE WAIVER WIRE, AND GET US HARANG, AND A SOLID BULLPEN ARM! THIS TEAM CAN TAKE IT ALL THE WAY!
August 11, 200915 yr ppppfff, like the marlins would pay 14 million for 1 player. he's almost making half of our whole payroll for the team. although i believe a change of scenery from the great american small park would do wonders to his career
August 11, 200915 yr ON THE WAIVER WIRE, AND GET US HARANG, AND A SOLID BULLPEN ARM! THIS TEAM CAN TAKE IT ALL THE WAY! Hell yeah :thumbup
August 11, 200915 yr Aaron Harang still has a year after this year left on his 4 year $36.5 million contract he got in 2007. We aren't going to pay over $10 million in 2010 to a mediocre pitcher imo. Doug Davis I believe will get around $2 million (probably less) the rest of this season, and is a free agent after the season. Look at his numbers, he would solidify a good part of the rotation, and we are off the hook for 2010. Big question on him is what are the D-Backs looking for in return.
August 11, 200915 yr Yes, because when the Marlins make a waiver claim, they usually go after $11 million pitchers.
August 11, 200915 yr Author The Reds will be giving up on him for salary reasons, they dont want to pay 10 mill for him either, let's go atleast half. make them eat 5o-75% of his contract and send them a prospect or two. Harang can turn things around in a winning situation, and he is a innings eater. He has number 3 starter stuff, and when on can be as unhittable as anybody. Florida would be the perfect fit for him, and we showed interest before the deadline. Wheel and deal, make it happen!
August 11, 200915 yr Author I like the Doug Davis idea, but Harang is a more likely thing to happen. Plenty of teams would jump on Davis before we can even make a claim, what order are we in via the wire at the moment?

He gets paid way too much for being very average at best. And why, if the Reds are getting rid of him for money reasons, would they pay 75% of his contract? That makes no sense. Really, he's a terrible fit for this team.

The Reds are not going to pay a dime of the $12.5 million Harang will make next season. You need to think bigger picture. Jon Garland the only other realistic possibility through waiver wire trades, and is also a free agent after the season. Basically, if we are going to do anything, Garland and Davis are the only real options that the Marlins should look at.
August 11, 200915 yr Yes, because when the Marlins make a waiver claim, they usually go after $11 million pitchers. We wont be paying for everything obviously. It makes sense for the Red because he wont be doing anything in Cincy and if they are looking to save money we can pick him up as long as they agree to pay around half.
August 11, 200915 yr He's been pretty bad since he was used inthat extra inning affiar last year when it was supposed to be his off day. Maybe he does better here but even half his contract is a lot for us to pay
August 11, 200915 yr Author Harang has terrific control, strikes out way more batters than he walks. He is on a losing squad which can prompt a pitcher to sort of lay low. On the Marlins he'd be a beast. He'd have much more run support, and he won't give the bullpen much work, he is the perfect fit. How many of you disagree?

August 11, 200915 yr Harang is not anything special. we are better off putting the diaper squad out there

August 11, 200915 yr I agree with Dim and Rab Harrang is way to overpriced and does not fit on this team. The better options would be Davis or Garland but more likely Davis. He could be a solid 4th starter and is another lefty pitcher to pitch to the loaded left handed batter NL East, more or less the Phillies.
August 11, 200915 yr I don't care for this idea at all. If it's still possible, I'd look into Zack Duke.
August 11, 200915 yr I don't care for this idea at all. If it's still possible, I'd look into Zack Duke. I wish but someone would definitely snatch him before we can. I wanted Duke or Mahlom at the original deadline but apparently Pittsburgh wants multiple prospects in return.
August 11, 200915 yr Zach Duke would be perfect, but no chance we get him. Dim's choice is the best, IMO. Doug Davis would be a good #4 starter.
August 11, 200915 yr It doesnt matter if someone claims said players before the Marlins do, they can still win the waiver claim.
