November 12, 200322 yr Since extension talks have gone nowhere, the White Sox are now considering trading Magglio Ordonez. Ordonez is due to make $14 million in the final year of his contract, so the White Sox would free up a lot of salary by moving him. They'd prefer to move Paul Konerko or Carlos Lee, but they'd have to pay someone to take Konerko's contract and Lee would have little trade value at the $7 million or more he's due in arbitration. Phil Rogers speculates that the Angels might be willing to give up either Troy Percival or Darin Erstad for Ordonez. The Yankees, Mets, Orioles, Mariners and Dodgers might also have interest. c/o Rotoworld.com
November 12, 200322 yr yea, there has been speculation for a few weeks.... one of the best players in the game
November 12, 200322 yr Carlos Lee ... would have little trade value at the $7 million or more he's due in arbitration. Time for a little off-topic rant on this. If nobody wants Carlos Lee at $7 million, why the h#ll is he going to be awarded $7 million in arbitration? If nobody in MLB wants to pay that then it's obviously more than he's worth. The arbitration system is terribly broken towards the players' advantage and there's nothing the owners can do to get rid of it. Arbitration is the single worst thing that is wrong with the game, more than Bud Selig, more than Steinbrenner, more than the DH, and more than the agents. Thank you. Now back to this thread ...
November 12, 200322 yr i wonder if that magglio guy from the forums has heard this. he cant be too happy.
November 12, 200322 yr i wonder if that magglio guy from the forums has heard this. he cant be too happy. Who me??? Yes i've heard it. I'm not angry at the fact we are trading mags based on the situation, but i'm mad that the situation in general is occuring. Let me explain, the white sox want to keep their payroll around 60 million dollars because our owner is a cheap bum, that's the situation which i'm not happy about at all. But since we are doing that, we almost have to trade magglio, who is due to make about 15 million dollar next season, his contract year. That would be 25 percent of our teams payroll, and based on our teams build we cannot compete for a division title with magglio eating 25 percent of our payroll, so in the current situation we almost have to trade him. Sad sign of the baseball economic times, and what's funny is magglio expects to get 15 million dollars over 3 or 4 years on the market after this season. He will be surprised when even vladimir guererro doesn't get a contract like that. Magglio is worth about 8 million a year, and if he isn't willing to restructure his deal or isn't going to resign, i'm not against trading him if we get the right offer. Sorry for the long post guys, but I figured i'd explain the situation to all you marlins fans.
November 12, 200322 yr I see. Ya I know the situation read it on insider. But just wanted to see wut ur feelings were.
November 12, 200322 yr Damn, you look at baseball right now and see that 4/5 of the teams have to make changes because of budget constraints, and then you have the yankees and they're still adding like usual. It's kind of sad, as the rich get richer the poor get poorer.
November 12, 200322 yr I say trade him to Angels for Darin Erstad, right now! That would be nice to have Magglio Ordonez with Garret Anderson and Troy Glaus. The Angels are looking for a right fielder and a starting pitcher this off season, so Magglio Ordonez would be a perfect fit. :thumbup :thumbup :whistle :elefant :arms :compute :jump

He was injured part of last year, I think he is OK. Eckstein batted .293 in 2002, .285 in 2001, so Eckstein is alright. 2003 was an off year he batted .252. Eckstein batted .294 in 2002 post season with .310 in 2002 world series. I rather have David Eckstein than the Marlins' Alex Gonzalez whom batted .225 in 2002 and had 26 errors in 2001. Alex Gonzalez batted .161 in 2003 post season. Eckstein is very popular with the fans, Eckstein is like Miguel Cabrera on this board. However it is rumored the Angels will try to sign Japanese free agent SS Kaz Matsui this off season. Kaz is cheaper than Tejada, Nomar, etc. Magglio Ordonez is the right fielder the Angels are looking for! :whistle :whistle
November 14, 200322 yr That would really suck! I wear his road jersey all the time. He has been the most consistant player on the team for the past 4 years.....

It's kind of sad, as the rich get richer the poor get poorer. Why should that be sad? The Marlins have already proven that you don't need $160 dollars to win the WS and the Yankees have proven that just because you have $160 that it doesn't guarentee you a WS championship. :mischief2

Only $160 for team like the Marlins! Then how much does the team cost? $400?
