December 8, 200915 yr Blockbuster is right. Wow. Jackson and Kennedy in the same trade from the Yanks. Now they really just cannot afford to trade Joba/Hughes IMO.

December 8, 200915 yr I think this is a really good deal for Detriot, OK for NY, and bad for Arizona. I thought Scherzer was much higher rated but maybe he fell a bit this year, either way Edwin Jackson is a decent pitcher but this is the second team that has traded him after a good year because they didn't believe he could repeat it. Granderson really isn't all he's made out to be, for all the excitement a player like him provides he just doesn't get on base well enough for a leadoff guy and doesn't hit for power well enough/consistent enough to be a middle of the order guy. Austin Jackson could end up being a real impact bat but we'll have to see on that.
December 8, 200915 yr Author I agree with Sirspud. After looking at it again, I don't see why Arizona made this trade.
December 8, 200915 yr Granderson is a great centerfielder for the Yankees. It is a great deal for all three teams though; they all got useful players.
December 8, 200915 yr Getting Granderson means goodbye to Matsui and Damon according to several reports, as CG can play both LF and CF. I think he only makes $5.5m in 2010 which is pretty good value for a player of his calibre.
December 9, 200915 yr Agreed on what has been said so far. People don't realize this really but if you look at Granderson's splits, all he is, is a glorified platoon player. He is terrible against lefties. I'm not looking now but his WAR against them is like -2.?. He has some pop and some speed and some good defense but that's only against righties.

December 9, 200915 yr I think Max Scherzer makes this a total win for the Tigers. The kid is an ace in the waiting. Add to it that they got Schlereth (who wasn't as bad as his ERA may indicate), and add to they got a very nice prospect in Jackson and a player who pitched extremely well in the minors and has major league experience in Phil Coke, and it was well worth what Granderson brings. I don't understand why the D-Backs would let Scherzer go for anything less than a Hughes/Chamberlain plus very good prospects on top of it. Ian Kennedy is fine, but his ceiling doesn't compare to Scherzer's. Sorry, just don't see the point in the D-Backs to get involved.

Verlander-Porcello-Scherzer that's insane. Coke and Schlreth to are pretty decent relievers that are young. Yankees got a lefty that can field is young pretty cheap to their standards. DBacks? Well, I honestly think they just wanted to say they made a trade.
December 9, 200915 yr I wouldn't yet say Verlander-Porcello-Scherzer is "insane". It has the potential to be very good but at this point in time 2 and 3 are still young and developing.

I follow minor league baseball a lot so I always like the deals involving younger players. 2 and 3 though both have ace potential and to add to that Verlander. I'll rephrase it to say that has the potential to be insane.
December 9, 200915 yr i really like the prospects that the tigers got in this deal. hopefully for them they all pan out. i don't understand this trade from arizona's standpoint. they just traded 6 years of scherzer for 3 years of jackson and they're not even going to be in contention for the next year or so unless they make some big signings which they don't have the money to do.
December 9, 200915 yr Overall very fair trade but now the Yankees are in a better position to win IMO since there defense have improved drastically with Granderson in the outfield. This probably means that either Damon or Matsui are gone (my guess is Matsui because of his knee) and Damon would move to the DH Spot. I'm gonna guarantee that Granderson's numbers skyrocket this upcoming season by playing 81 games at New Yankee Stadium.
