Attended ESPN the weekend all three days this weekend, was good to see several Marlins fans in the park among those Hawkfan! The cool thing about the weekend is you get a chance to get up close with the athletes and ESPN personalities and even ask them questions. I got to ask Andre Dawson and Jim Palmer about Chris Volstad and they both felt that if he got his mechanics down he would rebound just fine. Most will remember that Volstad worked with Palmer when he was younger and they did a little work together this off-season. Also asked about Hanley's ceiling as a player not only to Dawson but to the BBTN panel, they felt he would end up along with Hawk in the HOF, but Dawson mentioned Hanley's attitude as a concern. Also I know most here hate John Kruk, but he was very positive when talking about Chris Coghlan comparing him to Tony Gwynn is his ability to get hits. The best part of the weekend was getting Dawson's autograph and getting my picture taken with him, when I get my roll of film developed I'l try to post.

Sounds fun, I was actually watching the long version of BBTN earlier today. Seems like they are really trying to promote Bernie Williams and his band. Anyways, they had plenty of praise for the Fish so now we can't use the "underdog" card anymore. Most projections are for us to finish 2nd or 3rd... which sounds about right.

Can you elaborate?

He's had a few minor scuffles with management, the hair and shirt incidents and a few other little things. Has a bit of a cocky attitude as well and isn't the most fan friendly player around to put it nicely. But nothing there really seems like it's anything to be concerned about, kind of surprised Hawk brought it up.

I don't think it's much of a secret that Hanley has some attitude problems. He doesn't appear to be nearly as bad as Cabrera, Beckett, Burnett, and Penny were. Hopefully he doesn't grow into that.

No one is perfect. You can't have a team of just Conines, Castillos, and Willises.

We get to chat with Hawk quite often throughout the year. Seems a bit withdrawn at times, but a pretty good guy. Always willing to do a photo with us. He's also been pretty open about his thoughts on any player or situation.

Never did get all the hate directed towards Krk, except for what team he played for. He was a blue collar type of player, and that I respect.

His comment about Hanley was "that he's only been in the league 4 years", but that he "he walks around with an air about him" and that the only thing keeping him back is "his work ethic." Andre has long been known for his dedication to the craft, sacraficing his body and time to the game he loves so much. If Andre has concerns about his work ethic, honestly, there's something there. Perhaps Dan and Helms werent' wrong for calling him out last year, either.

However, I think a lot of that is maturity and the fact he is the lone superstar on a small market team- same thing happened to Miggy. Once Maybin, Morrison and Stanton fully arrive, I think the superstar pressure will be alleviated to an extent, and his latent leadership skills will take over.

As far as his fan relationship, personally I find Hanley far more accomodating to fans than Miggy ever was.

It was good seeing you too, fanofthefish. I did a final count, I ended up with 27/45 of the athletes/espn announcers that were there, with Andre, Ochocinco, Hester, Reavis, Bernie Williams, Deangolo Williams, Witten being the highlights. I even got Dick Vitale to sign my old copy of the Sega Genesis "Dick Vitale's Awesome Baby College Hoops!" I don't think I aksed, when he was over at the SportsZone, what was he doing? I got Devin Hester's auto when he was doing the wiffleball homerun derby.

Also, when I got Andre's signature after the BBTN theater show, I asked hime how Maybin was looking. He said he was still hurt (recovering from shoulder surgery) and that he wasn't going to get serious looks until ST games start this week.

I think that means he is going to be considered "recovering" until he shows he is good to go. When I talked to Maybin in December he said he felt fine and would be ready to go by ST. Of course he also said he hid his injury for a while last year because he dosen't like to ride the bench, he wants to play. ST is here, so we shall see.
