November 14, 200322 yr Cleveland, OH (Sports Network) - The Cleveland Indians Friday declined to exercise a team option for 2004 on pitcher Danys Baez. Baez, who led the Indians with 73 appearances in 2003, went 2-3 with a 3.81 earned run average and 25 saves. He was removed from the closer role in mid- August after blowing his 10th save of the season. In three seasons with Cleveland, Baez has accumulated a 17-23 mark with a 3.92 ERA and 31 saves.

He is up for arbitration, and the Twins may have to deal him depending on how much he gets in arbitration. It is a long, long shot, but why not try and make a deal for him?

I agree, the Twins wont trade Santana. And they shouldnt. That is a guy you keep, period. Thing about Baez, the Indians tried him out as a starter in '02. Was pretty solid too. Could be long relief/spot starter/closer. Very versatile. Like it.
November 14, 200322 yr Because the saves stat is grossly overrated by many clubs we could possibly get him somewhat cheaply, although with our current payroll situation, bullpen help is last in line.

The Twins took Camp and with the very next pick we took Santana(from the Astros) in the 1999 Rule 5 draft. We traded Santana, and some cash, to the Twins for Camp on 12/13/99. :banghead We ended up offering Camp back to Cleveland at the end of 2000 spring training. We didn't want to keep him on the major league roster for the whole year, which you have to do with rule 5 draftees. In hindsight, this may have been one of our worst trades.

True. 10 blown saves is not a pretty stat at all. With the right pitching coach (and catcher) none of that matters on a new team
