March 16, 201016 yr Derrick Turnbow was removed in the eighth inning after hitting a batter with a pitch. The right-handed reliever, who is trying to make the Marlins as a non-roster invitee, favored his right shoulder on a day he struggled to throw strikes. Turnbow walked Pete Orr on four pitches, and his sixth pitch to Danny Espinosa hit the Nationals shortstop. Twice in the inning, Marlins manager Fredi Gonzalez and trainer Sean Cunningham came to the mound. The second visit, Turnbow was removed for lefty Taylor Tankersley. Turnbow has battled shoulder tendinitis this spring. Eight of the 10 pitches Turnbow threw were balls. In 2001, Turnbow suffered a broken right elbow. "This pain is 10 times worse than that broken elbow," Turnbow said."Whatever it is, I'm going to be shut down for a while. My chance for the big league team is over, either way." -- Joe Frisaro http://joefrisaro.mlblogs.com/archives/2010/03/turnbow_exits_with_injury.html Bye bye. Enjoy retirement. At least we didn't lose much except a minor league contract.
March 16, 201016 yr I feel bad for the guy. He seemed really excited to get a shot back into the big leagues and now it's gone. I wish the best for him.

He was the first major leaguer to test positive for 'roids. Haven't liked him since. He got out of it scott free because the use of andro wasn't banned in MLB at the time, only in international play. It is now, though and it's a schedule III.
March 16, 201016 yr The way I read this is he knows he's not making the opening day roster, not that he's through playing. I could be wrong but shut him down get him healthy in NOLA and lets see where the team is in May-June if he's well.

March 16, 201016 yr Author So you don't like him because he did something legal? It was probably only legal because MLB didn't know what it's effects were. It wasn't long after Turnbow used that it was banned, the same year in fact. And it wasn't legal in the Olympics which is where he tested positive for it. He got a two year ban for it from the IOC.
March 16, 201016 yr Doesn't change the fact he did nothing wrong. Unless you have a problem with anyone who takes supplements, regardless of legal status, at which point you'd probably have a problem with every single MLB player.
