Anyone else miss Jeremy Hermida right now?

He's pretty much outproducing 2/3 of our outfield with a .247 AVG 4 HR and 19 RBI's.

I still think that trade for Hunter Jones was stupid even if Jones becomes a decent pitcher one day.

No...I don't think anything else needs to be said. Even has poorly as our outfield has played, they are all better than Hermida was when he was a Marlin.

That's not true as Erick pointed out Hermida has outproduced Maybin and it's really not close.

There's also a nice difference between Sun Life Stadium and Fenway Park. I agree that Hermida would slightly outproduce Maybin RIGHT NOW if he was on the Marlins, but I would 20X rather have Maybin based on what he can become over Hermida's ceiling in the upcoming seasons ahead.

Hermida's home/road splits are nearly identical this year. As a matter of fact, his .OPS was slightly better on the road, entering the night.

With that said, I don't really "miss" him because he's actually been crap this year, as well. It's just our OF has been horrible, and I was pointing out he's been better than Maybin, throughout his career, etc.

To be honest, (I can't believe I'm saying this), I'm actually missing the likes of Kevin Gregg and Matt Lindstrom more. Or Matt Capps who was rumored to come here in the offseason. I'm usually one to say that "relievers are overrated," but our bullpen just sucks right now. It sucks so bad that no one has a role in the pen, aside from Leo Nunez. And we're nearing the middle of May...

Hermida hasn't really been that good this season. I don't really see what there is to miss about him. I think Coghlan is finally settling in and Ross will come around eventually.

Just because Maybin is taking awhile to show his ability, I don't think that Hermida is a glaring absence from the lineup.

Yeah, there was no excuse for only scoring one run with the bases loaded and no outs, especially since it was the middle of the lineup hitting at that point.

Really, really disgusting series this weekend. We seemed to be on the right track on Friday, but then we follow that up with two nearly identical games (losing until the 8th inning or so, taking a one run lead, and then coughing that up along with the lead in the next inning).

If the team as a whole had just hit to half of their potential during this series, there's no doubt that we would have swept. I really hate losing two straight games by one run like this.

But I agree that something needs to be done. The Mariners just fired their hitting coach the other day for the same reason, and we're a far better hitting team than the Mariners could be. I'm not really in favor of bringing up Stanton right now, honestly. If we do that we're giving up on Maybin for sure, and I think that will probably kill his career. I would give it another month, but fire the hitting coach or something. It's especially frustrating because Fredi's trying to change the lineup around, having Baker hit 2nd for awhile, benching Maybin in favor of Carroll or Petersen, and then having Helms start today and hit 2nd. Unfortunately none of these changes really helped.

Something I have been calling for the last couple years. And I really thought it was going to happen last November.

When I saw Sunday's line up I thought it looked like Fredi was putting his best defensive team on the field (except Baker) and going for the series win. No errors recorded, but those base running blunders and lack of situational hitting cost us big.

BTW When that "WP" was thrown and I heard Tommy say that Baker needs to slide to his right and drop down to block those pitches instead of trying to back hand them, I almost choked on my beer. Just turned to the wife and said, "Gee. Where have I heard that before?" It's a common flaw in his technique, much like standing up when a ball hits the dirt in front of him and the ball passes between his legs. MOVE AND STAY DOWN!!! A catcher dosen't always need to catch it. But he does always have to keep the ball in front of him. You Baker fans will say "But he can hit." Well he isn't right now, and that only magnifies his defensive inadequacies that much more.

It's so funny that you say that. I thought the very same thing when I saw that Petersen and Coghlan were starting instead of Carroll.

Yea, I noticed that too. But Peterson seems to be a fav of the coaches and definetly not a deficiency playing the field. He's getting his cup of coffee of the bigs right now. I don't think he will be up here long. His bat's not ready. And Cogs has been having some pretty solid ABs, so I understood him getting the nod over Carroll.

It's funny how you point out Baker's negative contributions and ignore his positive contributions.

Maybe that's because I was talking about defense. Believe me, I know saying anything bad about Baker on these boards is a no-no. Better to look at his offensive numbers from last season, ignore those numbers from this season, and just pretend eveything else is fine. But I'll bite.....What are his positive defensive contributions?

So Fredi's best defensive team is when only Maybin and Gaby aren't playing, right?

If Fredi were so intent on having the best defensive team out there, wouldn't Carroll be starting over Coglan? Why would Coghlan "having some pretty solid ABs" be relevant if Fredi were trying to field his best defensive team? Why don't Gaby's "pretty solid ABs" get the same respect?

When he's hitting, you don't care. You always point out his bad defensive play. And now that he's struggling with the bat, you use it against him. It's pathetic, and honestly, it's old.
