Chris Volstad Drawing Interest

By Ben Nicholson-Smith [July 26 at 3:22pm CST]Teams are asking the Marlins about Chris Volstad's availability, according to Joe Capozzi of the Palm Beach Post (Twitter link). The Marlins appear undecided about the approach they'll take at the deadline, but they are reluctant to deal Volstad, Ricky Nolasco or Leo Nunez.

 

Volstad, 24 in September, has a 4.76 ERA with 6.1 K/9 and 3.5 BB/9 so far this season. The 6'8' righty is under team control through the 2014 season, and won't hit arbitration until after next year, so it's no surprise that the Marlins prefer to keep him

Yeah Chris isn't going anywhere

If a team actually likes him enough to give us something we can use in return, I wouldn't be reluctant to trade him, at all.

dont give him up. you wont get anything great back and he is still young, cheap, and he isnt terrible. he will never be a top pitcher but i like him as a #3 if he ever gets consistent.

You never know. Perhaps some teams still see top of the line potential in him, considering he was once a top prospect, and we can get a quality player in return. Or a decent prospect or two. Volstad is not impressing me at all the last few years. He's only getting worse.

It's hard to imagine that we'd get what we need by trading Volstad- mainly another talented arm we could plug into the rotation, as bodies to fill that role are really indispensable for us. Volstad himself is not, as he's been pretty stagnant and I'm not convinced he will ever be an above average starter, although his chances of being an average starter are very good. This team could really use another high-upside arm for the rotation behind JJ.

Seems to be Texas that inquired about Volstad so you have to wonder what Volstad/Cantu would return from the Rangers. I'd rather keep Volstad though despite his struggles
