Thanks for posting that, but once again good ole Joe is saying no trades and no FA signings. Has he ever been right when he predicts so soon? Basically he is saying right off the bat that this is simply a prediction ("they are showing") while making it sound like he has some inside info on it. Loria never sets the cap until the season is over, and no one in the FO has any idea until he does that. So he is saying he is a mind reader and has zeroed in on Loria's thoughts.

 

First of all he is saying expect no improvement on the team for next season. The only difference will be in signing a couple guys long term which would make the difference in payroll for next season. I'm just not buying into that. Can't see how anyone could. I'm still thinking 55-60 mil range, but waiting for the Holiday Party to make any real prediction. Gotta see how the season ticket sales blitz did.

 

He's probably even low on his prediction for 2012. But it's a pretty safe estimate seeing he has about 1 1/2 years to change it repeatedly. I think Joe would be better off if he waited till the day before Opening Day to tell us his payroll predictions for the season.

For the first time, Hanley will be earning over $10m. For that I'm wanting more HRs and RBI's!!!

Obviously there is a HOLE in Joe's when there is no discussion of bringing in anyone. You would hope we (FO and Loria) would learn from this year that someone from free agency needs to be brought on. (Multiple positions would be nice ) And I would think signing Uggla long term would stretch Joe's estimate if nothing else :whistle

If we're looking at team budget, I'm going with Frisaro. People might not like this, but Frisaro actually works for the team; board members on here do not. It's not a knock on the people here; it's just I would imagine Frisaro knows more than anyone on here (including me), considering he probably has some sort of inside info on this type of stuff.

 

Plus, I think Lou has already stated earlier in the year that payroll wouldn't increase significantly. So if you're taking his word, then I guess we should only expect a slight increase in payroll next year, either way.

If the team is having financial issues, there's nothing that can be done.

 

The team can sign Uggla longterm; it wouldn't increase payroll for next year all that much.

 

Some of the guys making millions will probably be gone (Miller, Nunez). That, in itself, lowers payroll and balances out some of the increases in payroll next year. As Frisaro stated, the Marlins have a lot of guys under club-control for years so their contracts pretty much stay the same.

 

People thinking that we're going to get a Crawford, Lee, or big name reliever next year via free agency are in for a huge disappointment.

A few weeks ago Barry Jackson (Miami Herald) said it would be about $50 million.

My guess is $50-55 million.

Good! I'm more concerned about the big bump for 2012. I'd love a big name splash.
